It's been pretty painless to switch to https://www.waterfox.net/ on desktop. There's also a Waterfox app for Android.

Oooooooh. Kagi added this lens! Since you can add custom lenses, I thought I added this (and forgot) to my own account. Cool!

Gottcha.

FYI, rapideditor.org is made by Facebook... :( which may or may not be a deal breaker.

Also, here's a list of a bunch of editors: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Comparison_of_editors

I saw there is one based on Qt. Maybe that could be a viable alternative to the Java one. I haven't tried it though.

β€œI was waiting for this question,” Druckmann began. β€œI guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of β€˜Last of Us.’ This could be it.”

My Pixel 9 with stock Android seems to handle OsmAnd fine. Otherwise, I wonder if Organic Maps might be lighter weight.

Great ideas!

Make them a reality right meow!

  1. Create an account on https://www.openstreetmap.org/
  2. Navigate to the ATMs on the map in the browser
  3. Click edit
  4. Click the ATMs (or just 1 to start)
  5. Update the metadata text fields
  6. Press save
  7. Party! πŸ₯³

After a while, you may want to use a more powerful editor. JOSM is a popular desktop editor that's kinda scary, but powerful to use.

After you make the edits, you'll have to wait between 1 hour and 1 month for the maps to be updated. If you have OsmAnd ProPlusMax or whatever, then you get hourly updates. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a month.

And the great news is that not just OsmAnd will get your map updates. Other apps that use OSM data will get the updates too. Thanks!

Sir, this is a Wendy's...

Wait, no. Uh, StreetComplete is an editor for OpenStreetMap. These are used to update the OSM (OpenStreetMap) data.

There are other editors too like:

If you want navigation (directions to go somewhere), those are different apps:

The OSM StreetComplete is a mobile editor designed to make it easy to make updates to OSM. Therefore, easy means the edits are much more constrained, especially to your local area. If you want full editing power, you need a powerful editor like JOSM.

If you want directions, then you need OsmAnd or Organic Maps.

Two things I've recently discovered:

  1. The data simply isn't there. One of the reasons you can't find address is because nobody has entered them to OpenStreetMap.
  2. OsmAnd search isn't good or intuitive. For the few places that do have addresses, you'll have to search for them in a very specific format: $CITY $STREET $NUMBER

If you want to contribute addresses you know to OpenStreetMap create an account here: https://www.openstreetmap.org/

Once you create an account, you'll be able to use editors to update the map.

Editors include:

After you update the map, you'll have to wait somewhere between 1 hour to 1 month for updates to propagate to different apps. OsmAnd has a pro tier that gets hourly map updates... although... I'm not sure if address data is included in those map updates or just other things like buildings...

yay simplifies the AUR installation

Simple to me means not having to install some random extra tool and just using pacman like normal. That's why I grumble.

LOL! You caught that! I vaguely remember seeing that somewhere? Was it on the Simpsons trivia episode? 30 years later, I still remember that, but I couldn't tell you the equation to draw a line... πŸ˜…
