I physically recoiled

I haven't really honed this line of thought, but something I've thought about recently is how churches could be, for lack of a better word, co-opted here in the US to fight for left-wing causes. There's a church out in San Francisco called GLIDE that was a part of the Methodist Church (I think they broke off) that essentially operates as a neighborhood resource center. Daily soup kitchen (3 meals every single day, no limits), harm-reduction kit distribution, childcare, DV resource center, and a lot more.
I guess all I've been thinking is just that if more churches could be politicized in this way, they could be potential allies in local struggles, because they're already organized, meet regularly, have physical spaces that can be used, and know how to handle a budget.

Obviously of a different scale, but TBT to when Biden placed 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs and 50% on Chinese solar panels (especially egregious when China produces something like 80% of all solar panels on the earth).

If you're in the US, I recently learned that some states allow you to see a physical therapist directly, without a referral. In my state it's limited to a few sessions, but you can tell the therapist something like "I won't be coming back, give me the best at-home routine for my issues", and they should be able to help you out. I know this still is not accessible to everyone, but I wanted to make sure you were aware that it might be an option!

The beans I usually buy in bulk from a local roaster have gone up 25% in the last couple years for me. And I purposefully bought the cheaper ones. It sucks lmao

I've been close to several people with treatment-resistant depression and shit like this has me about to fedposting
I just have so much rage at so many things and people and it feels like there's such little room to channel any of it where I am. I feel insane all the time

If you ever wanna twist the knife (and keep twisting until you're back to c/bloomer), check out This Soviet World by Anna Louise Strong. The hope, optimism, and determination of the whole Soviet people blew my mind every chapter. For all of its many faults, the USSR was easily one of the greatest things humankind has ever created. I can send you a PDF of a scan I made if you want.

I don't want to just assume that they're stupid, that's not satisfying, but I'm genuinely having a hard time parsing these moves. Assuming these people want to "counter China's ascendance" or however you want to put it, they can't rip the floor out from under one of the biggest (THE biggest?) funders of novel science in the US. Why tf would they target the NSF?
