I've tried all of the URLs I know and I can't find a way to reach library Genesis. Is there a known problem?

Hello! I can feel a new hyperfixation coming on, does anyone have any recommendations for books about ww2 written by Marxists, preferably MLs?

I move like I don't have a physical body. As a result, I bump into things a lot and trip. I try to go through objects like a ghost, sometimes fully expecting it'll work. Like a bee trying to leave a closed window. It happens most when I'm doing chores.

I grew up rushing to take care of my abusive family every second of my childhood, and was made to feel my self care had no significance. Even if the care is as small as taking a moment to see if something is in the way, so I don't bump into it. Like a corner while I'm rounding a corner. And even if I notice something's in my way, I will try to crash through it repeatedly before the throbbing of resulting pain reminds me to move it out my way first. The throbbing has to grow intense enough too. I might accidentally hit my head on an object 10 times in less than an hour before I watch my head. (TW: domestic violence) This is probably because my family beat me daily and I dissociate from physical pain.

Examples of things I've been told that help me understand my physical presence:

  • This might sound weird, but "pretend" you have a body. This way you act like you have one.

  • What are some things in your room? How big are they? What's the biggest thing in your room? How big is it? All those things thake up physical space. Just like those things, you take up physical space.

I know DSA gets dunked on here pretty hard, so hoping we can have a constructive conversation about how to make things better.

I'm a DSA member. Plz don't Ban me...

It's a smaller chapter in the deep south. There's a mix of people including MLS, Anarchists, and some baby-leftists. No liberalism and we make fun of Democrats all the time.

What we're doing:

New member education

BDS, in particular handing out flyers with a list of companies to boycott

Attending Palestinian rallies and supporting the Palestinian rights orgs in our area

Tabling at Pride

Brake light clinics

...and we're starting a public transit campaign to improve service

What are we missing? What could we do better?

I mean aside from obvious reactionaries stirring up shit. Those don't count. Or like Unwanted sex pest shit is understandable.

Those of you who tell on other shit, why,?

It's cringe as hell

So my dad got me The Daily Stoic for Christmas this year. We have had a shit relationship for a long time and he recently got into therapy (which is good). I just feel like this thing is mindfulness for bros. Most of that is probably me knowing of modern stoicism (or grifters making a buck saying they're stoic) seeming to be red pill or day trader bros. I've made it to day 4 and I can't stand it anymore. This is the most basic 3Cs of recovery stufd and basic mindfulness. Also I might have looked to Google to justify my options that it's just a toxic male / bro coping mechanism, but this seems like a fucking grift for shitty people who are trying to be better but still aren't down/get it.

I already learned all of this Jinkx Monsoon

P.S. I haven't come out to that side of the family yet as genderqueer and my dad and grandpa kept making jokes that pissed me off. Possibly some misplaced anger

I discovered what appears to be the only bar in my current country of residence that specializes in Peruvian pisco in December 2022. At first I went just to try a pisco sour, which I've long been interested in. After getting the chance to revisit it over the holidays, I experimented with different varieties and ways of serving it, and realized a short tonic is my favorite way to drink it without masking its natural flavor.

Previously, I mainly enjoyed cocktails and didn't have any particular favorite spirit, so this is all very new to me. Should I be taking every opportunity I can to inform people of my fondness for pisco and how my refined tastes are beyond the comprehension of the plebs who enjoy lesser drinks like beer, wine, or vodka? Just how far should I go? Am I now required to be a dick to Chileans and go out of my way to remind them that their pisco is shit, an opinion that I certainly have come to after extensive research and experimentation to form my own judgement, and am absolutely not parroting from opinionated reply guys? Are there any gender studies scholars who can help me with this?

Like my core question here is, are the majority of patsocs MLs lead astray into social reaction? And without the patsoc grift theyd be good MLs?

Or are they fash at heart who are doing faux-leftism because it was suggested to them?

Or would it be something else?

For this hypothetical, let’s say it’s not aliens actually visiting earth. But let’s say JWST finds a planet maybe a few hundred light years away, and we can see lights and cities and maybe spaceships or stuff like that around it. So no contact, but 100% proof there’s intelligent life out there. How would humans (and different groups of humans, like conservative Christians) react to this?

I fucked up and hit a D8 pen yesterday. I have a saliva test on Thursday. I’m getting mixed search results on how long it can detect, so any advice on beating it is greatly appreciated

What are the most notable differences between Stalin's and Mao's implementations of socialism?

Many of the differences are likely because of the different state that the two countries existed in before and during the revolution, so I'm more interested on the abstract topics rather than overly specific details.

There’s no doubt a key driver behind opposition to the Gaza massacre, especially among normie types, has been the footage from smartphones showing the mass destruction and casualties.

Hypothetically, if the War in Iraq occurred with 2023 smartphone technology, how would this have impacted public opinion?

Would Bush have been re-elected in 2004?

Also, for historians of the war, is there a particular atrocity during the war that has been documented by activists or watchdogs but has limited photographic evidence, that had it been recorded by smartphone, could have single-handedly turned the tide of public opinion?

To me they're like mere servants of the State, like Lenin talked about in "2. What is to Replace the Smashed State Machine?" in his writing "The State and Revolution"

Under Capitalism, they are its privileged knights that try to deflect and control, if not defend directly its image as "the only option", who have their incentive in doing so, with their class status stake being in their duty to shepherd the means of production and its resulting benefits

However, they don't own the means of production, as they merely manage it for the landholding, industrialist, and financier capitalists

On the other hand, under Socialism, while its privileges will be probably be done away, the PM class on its own would innovated upon, for their new duty of overseeing, managing, and reporting the collectivized cooperatives and state-owned enterprises..

Until the final stage of Communism arrives, I think they're pretty handy

I say this, because I hear such disgusted sentiment in Hexbear against them

Note: I know a bit about the bazingo techbro culture that the PMC is associated with, please don't criticize them solely on those vibes...

Just think, you have an international fandom known for:

  1. Cool fursuits
  2. Doing creative indie art projects

You'd think someone would have thought, "Why don't we fight monsters while in our fursuits and then film it and put it online", but I haven't seen this yet. WHY THE FUCK NOT??

I'm sure he thinks hes 'white' or whatever. But to the vast majority of racist wasps he's just another Jew to get rid of.

I don't think he's an idiot just very evil and sociopathic.

Curious as to why he believes he want be burned with the rest in the end.

I keep seeing "fuck tankies" everywhere, and seem to see people getting called "tankie" for any number of things--I used to feel like I knew what it meant (the formal definition, which I thought was the only application) but that's clearly not the case anymore. Saw someone get called one because they... Liked the idea of universal basic income and wanted walkable cities? And now the same sentiment is on a large number of Lemmy communities, lol.

I feel like I've been living under a rock.

Edit: Wow, I guess it's just as meaningless of a term now as it seemed. At least it's a nice, bright flag for ghouls not worth engaging with meaningfully, lol. I saw "fuck tankies" on a genderqueer community and got pretty confused on how the two ideas correlated in the slightest, so I guess that was the tipping point on me finally asking about it.

Or just feel free to talk about it.

My profile picture is the Magician enemy from the game Persona 3, based on the major arcana.

I kept the picture because it reminds me of comfy when it's rounded.

What about you?

Attempting to read about Bahá'í views on politics and economy, there seems to be a bit of a history of the Guardians having really lib takes, up to and including labeling communism as a "false god". Bahá'ís tend to be pretty deferent to the state authorities they live under, and also refuse to engage in party politics, which to me feels sort of yehhhh but also ehhhh. These Bahá'í policies feel like they probably have origins as survival strategies, when Bahá'ís have this history of persecution.

There are Bahá'ís who self-describe as Marxist, but these are few in number and are apparently ridiculed as oxymoronic; as a whole Bahá'ís seem to actively reject materialism as "satanic" and antithetical to their spirituality, and the notion of class warfare is seen by many Bahá'ís as a "divisive" view of humanity, and hence goes against the faith's teachings.

Simultaneously, Bahá'ís do seem to have some respect for Marxism, acknowledging parallels in the histories of Bahá'í Faith and Marxism, as well as recognizing the similarities of values held by Marxists and Bahá'ís, such as universal brotherhood; some Bahá'ís do acknowledge that their views of Marxism are colored by living in a liberal society, and are therefore more willing to actually engage with Marxist theory, to learn from it without embracing it wholeheartedly; and some of the common Bahá'í takes on politics are pretty decent in an apparently "stopped clock" kind of way.

So basically, I want to know: does anyone here have experiences with teaching Bahá'ís about Marxist ideas? Are there any organizations for Bahá'í Marxists? Have any of you met or interacted with any Marxist Bahá'ís? How do we feel about Bahá'ís in general, reconciling the Bahá'í Faith with Marxism in the same way as there are Marxists of other religions? Is this reconciliation possible? Is it worthwhile?
