- Lemmy.world is not loading, and I am encountering an error when opening a new page.

Please start by checking the following links to see if Lemmy.world is experiencing any issues:

- I am experiencing an issue with the client I'm using.

Are you using a client other than the website itself? Is the issue specific to that client? If so, please contact the developer of the app or web client you are using.

Here are some popular apps/web clients you can reach out to:

- I am unable to create a community, and I keep seeing a spinning circle.

Please check if the desired community name is available.

- There is a community I want to moderate, but the moderators appear to be inactive.

Please email us at info@lemmy.world or create a post in this community.

- Did we defederate, or did someone else defederate from us?

Visit https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/lemmy.world for information about defederation of any instance.

Alternatively check https://defed.xyz/ and enter "lemmy.world" to view a complete list of defederations.

- I cannot access my account.

For assistance with account access issues, please email us at info@lemmy.world. We cannot assist with these matters in the comments section due to privacy concerns.

- Why am I banned from this specific community?

Lemmy offers transparency, and you can check the modlog of the community to understand the reason behind the ban. If you have further questions, feel free to send a private message to one of the moderators. If you have other issues, please email us at info@lemmy.world.

- Can this feature be added to the website?

If you would like to request a feature to be added to Lemmy, please contact the Lemmy developers on GitHub or reach out to the developer of your preferred (web) client. Instances like ours cannot directly add features to the website.

Just wondering when do you think it'll be possible to upgrade Lemmy.world to 0.19.5. Just curious since I know that 0.19.5 comes with many nice improvements including the ability to delete your own image uploads. As well as many bug fixes.

Seems like my VPN has been targeted for blocking by this instance which I appreciate is a security thing and prevents BS accounts from taking over the platform.

However I hold a dedicated IP with said VPN, so is it possible to unblock just my dedicated IP?

broken images (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) by poszod@lemmy.world to c/support@lemmy.world

Hello,

Using the default web UI, sometimes post images don't load, both for local and federated posts.

One example:
https://lemmy.world/post/20205083

Looking at the console, the requests to both the thumbnail and the main image fail with a 500:
https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/45cab39c-d212-4581-bb8f-f9276e631531.gif?format=webp&thumbnail=256
https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/45cab39c-d212-4581-bb8f-f9276e631531.gif?format=webp

The response body for both contains: {"code":"panic","msg":"Panic in blocking operation"}

Removing both parameters, format and thumbnail, returns the correct media.

Am I doing something wrong?

Celeb_pics appears to be some bot posting from whoischic.com. Cluttters up /all.

Hey there.

So the most recent issue I've experienced has been being unable to see any (new or old) posts on !standupcomedy@lemmy.world. It's a community that I started, in case that somehow affects anything. I'm accessing Lemmy via Edge browser with ad-blocker disabled for Lemmy.World.

I'm very puzzled as to why I haven't been able to see anything for about a week. I checked again today to see if it was a view filter issue. So I tried all of the view filters for the community and nothing changed. I even opened up community settings to see if something had become activated/deactivated. There seems to be nothing related.

So what's going on and how could I resolve this issue?

Since a few weeks ago, Lemmy.world will always log me out when I leave it, and I cannot find a "stay logged-in" tick-box anywhere in the settings. Is this a bug or a feature or perhaps a "me-problem"?

Happens with Firefox and Vivaldi on Linux, if that matters. Emptying cache/cookies did not help. Mobile app is fine.

Thanks for any hint!

ETA, thanks to @Rooki@lemmy.world, there is a temporary workaround to this:

I could set the lemmy.world cookie to “lax” using a cookie manager extension. Now it seems to work, both with F5 and when I leave Firefox.

Hello, I was wondering if I could be added as a moderator to the Fallout New Vegas community. The only original mod, Lukjam, appears to have been inactive for the past year. I tried to reach out to them directly through DMs two weeks ago, but I have not heard back. I really want to make sure this community keeps going, but I think that will be difficult if there are no active moderators. Let me know if there is anything you need from me.

Ban the MBFC bot (self.support)
submitted 2 weeks ago by Krono to c/support@lemmy.world

This bot is spreading misinformation.

This bot is spreading rightwing propaganda.

This bot is spamming every post.

This bot is consistently downvoted.

This bot degrades the user experience.

Please ban it.

old.lemmy.world has been very slow all day and is now 503'ing continuously, lemmy instance health doesn't seem to cover old.lemmy.world, only the main instance, which seems to be working fine.

The link to https://browse.feddit.de/ is dead and should be updated to https://lemmyverse.net/communities.

Personally i think it would even make sense to link this from the main site sidebar. Not because it is a problem finding communities on other instances from within world, at least this should be the best instance to be able to, but as a function of being a "role model" for other instances.

I'm not sure if this is a Lemmy issue, an instance issue or a Jerboa issue but occasionally when I hit the button to reply specifically to the main post and make a top-level comment, it instead replies to one of the already existing top level comments.

I don't know how long this has been happening; I only just now noticed it wasn't me accidentally clicking the wrong reply button when it happened twice in a row and I was making absolute sure I hit the right button the second time.

I've recently noticed that downvotes don't stick for the community Greentext@sh.itjust.works.

Bug or design choice? Is there a work around? My account is with lemmy.world - do I need to log into a different instance to have full downvote capability?

SOLVED - they banned me for downvoting their fascist frogs

Lemmy political Memes only seems to care about ignoring genocide and punishing those calling out uncivil accounts. Also more interested in banning those they don't like then locking posts due to reporting then actually moderating posts.

Mods log.

Examples of terrible removals and bans

And they leave up comments with baseless accusations

Apparently the unsticking of this post in the !lemmy@lemmy.ml community did not federate and should be unstickied on world's end.

I got banned earlier today with the message "rule 1", no other information about why, or which comment broke the rule. As far as I can tell it was this one, which just says "We want the bot gone. That’s it. It’s really that simple."

So I checked the modlog for other bans, and @aniki@lemmings.world was banned today as well, also just for "rule 1", probably either for the comment saying "a stupid bot writing useless bullshit" or "This is what you call "Not listening to criticism."", neither of which are an attack on any person.

(Also earlier today @MindTraveller@lemmy.ca was banned with the message "fuck off", which I'm pretty sure is not a reason to ban someone from a major community, but doesn't appear to be related to the MBFC bot.)

One more today, @stormesp@lemm.ee was banned, again just "rule 1", last comment being this one, again not an attack on any person.

So what's the deal here? I couldn't find any rules for mods on lemmy.world with a brief poke around, but are we letting mods run major communities like little fiefdoms, banning people for criticism?

Hello. When I Post by putting the video's URL, say from YouTube, the leftside square thumbnail preview is always the generic one provided by Lemmy World, the one with the the link arrow in the middle. So I simply put the URL of the thumbnail instead (eg. maxresdefault, sddefault, etc.) It's been like such since I joined.

Then just lately, I found out existing Posts in other YouTube-related Communities, the leftside square preview thumbnails do in fact show, and with the link arrow on the top-right corner instead. And I think the Body automatically inherits the existing Title and Description from the YouTube video. Both youtu.be and www.youtube.com video links work in those Communities.

Examples of YouTube-related Communities with showing Thumbnails are:

  • c/youtubehaiku
  • c/youtube

~~Here is my latest Post as example (which I have never edited yet), and I posted it via a raw Chromium profile, so no add-ons at all if they would interfere just in case:~~

  • ~~https://lemmy.world/post/19226604~~

Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe the mod(s) got banned by admins? Doesn't seem to be too active thankfully, but it's probably only a matter of time before moderation will be needed there.

Honestly, in this day and age I consider VPN a basic internet hygiene. There are many many reasons to not trust your ISP and the wire between your home and ISP. You have moderation here, why do you even need to block VPN? I registered this account from VPN, but I somehow cannot comment from VPN? Doesn't make much sense. I'm using paid Proton VPN servers, and btw I've seen Proton having a dedicated community here on this platform.

Hello,

Could you please lock down !lemmyinstances@lemmy.world ?

Also, it seems like the creator has a lot of communities https://lemmy.world/u/comcreator

None of them have had any post since at least 4 months.

No active mod, last real post was 9 months ago.

The last post already points to !interestingasfuck@lemm.ee as an alternative
