V for Vendetta has its own issues with the figurehead they chose lol

[–] xor@infosec.pub 5 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

i thought V was pretty good…

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 21 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

It was exciting, in the same way that Fight Club was exciting. But it rested heavily on the idea that one guy doing super-villain style terrorism against an Evil Media Guy was all it took to bring about sweeping social change.

The name really says it all. This isn't V for Victory. Its a story about the triumph of nihilism.

It's about American neoliberalism vs neoconservatism instead of the comic's British anarchism vs fascism.

But that's just Alan Moore's take.

i dunno… i didn’t take it as such a literal parable for what we should do to enact change…
more of a metaphorical, as well as cautionary tale….

Fight Club is about coming to grips with mental illness.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Everyone has their own take on what fight club is about.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Fight club is about entrepreneurship lol

Even if I did have my own take on Fight Club… I wouldn’t talk about it.

This guy pays attention when rules are being stated! You are eligible for promotion.

I thought it's about the self dynamics of support groups.

This Guy Fawkes.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

What? You mean the terrorist who was arrested for trying to blow up a house of parliament? What's problematic about that?

[–] Armen12@lemm.ee 2 points 4 weeks ago

Oh god, a neo-lib lol

[–] SteveFromMySpace@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Do you know why he wanted to do it?

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

He was a papist (i.e. a Catholic theocrat) who was fighting against the Protestant theocracy in England. He wanted to replace a Protestant theocracy with a Catholic theocracy.

That's about all I know. I'm not an expert or anything.

Yes which is not great lol

you’re confusing the actual Guy Fawkes with the symbol of Guy Fawkes….
it means something quite different now

[–] SteveFromMySpace@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

quite different

More like quite cringe tbh

[–] xor@infosec.pub 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

yeah ok, “steve from myspace”….
i’ll take your advice on what’s “cringe” or not….
honestly every time people use the word cringe in that way, i actually have the physical reaction of cringing….

You’re entitled to feel however you want 🤷‍♂️

Just take note that you are commenting on a post that has the word “cringe” in the title…
