Because journalism has catastrophically failed. They cannot be trusted. They are not more than PR weasels.

News lost its trustworthiness when it went both 24/7 and for profit (what company is it that owns a lot of local news now?). Many may not remember this (or were even alive at the time) but the news was once just a part of a tv station and news was paid for by the money earned from advertisements on other shows. News was also like an hour 3 or 4x a day, morning, noon, supper, and 11pm

I was young enough that I didn't pay much attention to the news back then, but I've heard that 9/11 was what started the 24/7 news cycle.
