How Trump supporters, a lot them I know hard-line McCarthyists, don't see the takeover of the US by Russia is fucking beyond me. But then again, it was never about Russia, it was always about authoritarianism.

On the sixth day of Hate Week, after the processions, the speeches, the shouting, the singing, the banners, the posters, the films, the waxworks, the rolling of drums and squealing of trumpets, the tramp of marching feet, the grinding of the caterpillars of tanks, the roar of massed planes, the booming of guns—after six days of this, when the great orgasm was quivering to its climax and the general hatred of Eurasia had boiled up into such delirium that if the crowd could have got their hands on the 2,000 Eurasian war-criminals who were to be publicly hanged on the last day of the proceedings, they would unquestionably have torn them to pieces—at just this moment it had been announced that Oceania was not after all at war with Eurasia. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Eurasia was an ally.

There was, of course, no admission that any change had taken place. Merely it became known, with extreme suddenness and everywhere at once, that Eastasia and not Eurasia was the enemy.

In my eyes a mandatory read for anybody opposed to authoritarianism.

I always wonder: Why is it tied so closely to American evangelical Christianity?

And it makes sense if you consider:

They need some absolute power to punish people different than them

They believe they are absolutely correct per God (gott mins uns, anyone?)

And no mentally healthy reasonable grown up human believes in magical stories about sexy abs-jacked Jesus performing magic.

They’re all liars. Arguing in bad faith

It’s all to punish anyone different thab them who have things they wish they had.

The entire objective is some weird “prima noctum” scheme where they remove all the men, and force all the women to birth their rape babies.

I’m sure there’s some other plausible explanation for what they are doing.

Right? There’s another reason for all this? And it’s not rape and murder and theft.

Right?

Please?

I always wonder: Why is it tied so closely to American evangelical Christianity?

The answer to this, from what I understand, is SUPER fascinating and a rather straight line with only a single detour. In one word: racism.

Prior to the civil rights movement, you'll see a higher rate of people who consider themselves religious or of faith, but fewer fundamentalists. When schools started integrating and leading up to Brown v Board of Education, a lot of racist assholes were upset that their child might go to school with someone ~~colored~~ of color (holy shit, what's wrong with me today??).

Since public schools were becoming a cesspool of inclusivity (THE HORROR!), private schools realized they could become a safe-haven for segregationists and make bank off of an easily-exploitable, single-issue population. A trusted source of private schooling were churches and they were more than happy to do a racism if it meant easy money.

The religious schools were mutually beneficial for the parents, too. Their kid didn't go to private school because the parents were racist and wanted their children away from the "colored folk", they sent their kid to private school because God was super-important and needed to be in the kids' schooling. Why? Cuz we're super-religious now!

That's the ticket! We're not racist, we're religious!!! To keep up appearances, the parents would drag their family to church to prove how godly and un-racist they were.

In summary: why are the bigots often intertwined with evangelicals? Cuz you can use God to justify how much you truly suck.

I got some information about human history you seem to already be privy to.

[–] entwine413@lemm.ee 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, idk where people got this idea that humans are some altruistic species. The last few decades of relative peace is an outlier in human history.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Enlightenment.

Which Peter Thiel hates.

Go figure the world looks like this now.

Maybe rich people shouldn't influence everything.

Maybe they have shit ass ideologues that will kill all progress we've made.

These dudes suck so much I just read Starship Troopers and they make the Terran Federation look like saints.

Yeah whatever its called. Surprisingly they mention the name like once or twice in the book. Also, most of it is not in a class room.

[–] ShittDickk@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Oh theres another point. The earth is dying, and not just for the poor. The biggest cause of climate change are the systems required to support 8 billion people. Why do you see a push for AI slaves at the same time as a push for WW3. When zuck has his art, food, entertainment and all taken care of why does he need poor people killing his planet?

Please stop putting each sentence on a different line.

It doesn't make you more profound.

It just makes it impossible to read.

It's also much more simple.

The US right wing is based on religion.

So if they want to talk up a different country.

They just have to say how they're a good Christian country.

With Christian values, just like them.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thank you for your Input

I am not seeking profundity it’s just how i organize my thoughts.

If it bothers you, a downvote would work.

Or you could take it personal and believe I am assaulting your perceived mundanity. And accuse me of trying to be “profound”

You do you man! I like you just the way you are

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

If it bothers you, a downvote would work.

Orrrrrrrrrrrr I could provide constructive feedback.

Instead of random downvotes that you don't know why.

If you write like this profesionally.

I have news for you.

And it's not good.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social -2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I am a professional writer.

I write code.

White space is important for readability.

It helps other coders read your stuff

But if you came here to argue with mw let’s argue about something more substantive than your hatred of my use of white space.

Shohei Ohtani: better than babe Ruth?

[–] SreudianFlip@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

it must be springtime

the style police have emerged

discourse now narrows

Lonely manifests

As misdirected anger

And no one will win

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sigh.

If you write reports.

Or emails.

Or literally any words in sentences.

Like on Lemmy.

Then it doesn't work.

Code is different.

I think you know this.

But you are being obtuse.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social -3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Your loneliness is tangible. I’m sorry you feel that way.

I am not here writing a report. Or seeking your validation.

This is how I communicate.

No me importa si lo gusta.

Shohei vs the babe?

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Ah when in doubt, go for the personal attack.

LOL.

Instead of taking constructive feedback.

Well when you point a finger.

There are 3 pointing back towards you.

Ciao.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This guy is mad at me for expressing my opinion

Sees everything I say as an attack on them.

Truly my heart aches for them. Their loneliness is palpable.

I know what it is to feel lonely. I empathize.

I’m sure they see my empathy as another attack but what can I do about it?

All this. Because I organize my thoughts one sentence at a time. Wow.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Ah when in doubt.

Triple down on attacks.

lol

It was actually in your very first reply too.

Ok I can't keep pointing it out all day.

P.S. learn to take constructive feedback without feeling the need to attack others.

Ciao.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

ciao

You keep using this word. But I do not think it means what you think it does.

I wonder what mistakes you have made in your life to be so angry about white space use by a stranger on the internet.

You’re so mad about something but it’s so misdirected at me.

I bet it’s something simple like “Molly likes Dave more than me”

That’s a tough pill to swallow.

But maybe Molly just likes Dave because he writes clean love letters to her, one sentence at a time.

I’d hate me too if that happened to me

Especially the use of signicant disinformation by their propaganda networks all over USA, social media and msm

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Fox News talking positively about Russia for 5 to 10 years will do wonders. These people never did a deep analysis, they were told Russia bad and now they're told Russia good.

[–] HighFructoseLowStand@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

McCarthy was in fact backed in 1946 in the Republican primary against progressive Robert M. La Follette Jr. by the Wisconsin Communist Party because they felt that La Follette would be more effective in opposing communism.
