Recently I maxed out my "Watch Later" playlist on YouTube. Turns out you can't have more than 5000 videos in it

it would put too much load on their servers if you could poll a million different channels for new videos at once

when you open the subscriptions page Youtube has to ask its servers for new videos from all of the people you subscribe to. So getting that list could become expensive for them if you were able to have an unlimited number of subscibed channels
