Lemm.ee is shutting down. Sad to see them go but I was expecting this after the main admin stepped down. Once the Power hungry admins replaced him, the whole vibe changed and the admins went power hungry. They didn’t follow the vision of the original admin and crushed the site in a few months.

Sad, but let’s all have a moment of silence for lemm.ee

Oh wow! That's crazy. But yeah, you're right, it wasn't the same after the new people took over.

I guess the conservative community there--that they let get taken over by a troll and turned into a joke community--wasn't really the thing they should have been concentrating on. They were so busy shutting down anyone who was a conservative, that they lost sight of what Lemmy is really about about.

So after what they let happen to the conservative community and how they treated conservatives there, I don't feel bad at all that they are shutting down. Never super awesome when a lemmy instance goes down, but they didn't believe in a diversity of voices and opinion, became way to censor-happy, and now they are shutting dwon.

I say good riddance. :)

What is funny, is that it was one of the top communities and after the change, it dropped towards the bottom.

Diversity of ideas is a good thing. The problem is that most admins want echo chambers, which is why Lemmy is struggling as a whole. If everyone is just circle jerking each other, it gets old real quick.

Yeah, I don't think Lemmy is gonna grow much larger than it is now. Basically we exclude half of the US, and any other population with conservative people. The censorship has grown worse than reddit. It's harder to join than reddit. So yeah, Lemmy is probably at it's peak population now.

I still like it more than reddit, but it's not super welcoming to diverse opinions.

Until Lemmy is able to manage the angry incel population, they will struggle.

Yep. The anti-semitism I am seeing on here lately is troubling as well. Funny for a platform that is so quick to call everyone Nazis are starting to treat Jewish people like, well....like the Nazis did.

Well the left has always had a Nazi problem. The ideologies lign up pretty well. It’s weird when they call republicans Nazis. Since we did we become advocates for trade unions, pensions and national healthcare?

Idiots don’t realize Nazis we’re a political party.

I stopped donating after they shut down the conservative community. I know many of the liberals stopped as well. They wanted a place to engage with conservatives and have meaningful discussions. Calling Elon's had gesture a nazi move just showed how bad the new admins were . 1. The photo was missed. 2. It was a joke meme from a liberal show. 3. Shutting down the forum over a missed, joke meme just showed they didn't want any real discussions; they wanted an echo chamber. They just wanted to determine what is the truth. Many of the liberals were pissed because it showed they could be next. That if they disagreed with an admin, they wouldn't be warned, they would have their content deleted or be banned.

The fediverse should be place for open discussions and not echo chambers.

Worse than shutting down, they let it be taken over by an anti-conservative troll and turned into a joke meme community. I blocked them after that. So until your post, I had no idea they were shutting down. lol

Ella was a well-known admin there but they haven't posted in last two months, so I don't know if they are still around or not.

[–] Chucklestheclown@hilariouschaos.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ella was one of the main causes as to why they are shutting down, that and bird boy. You can't put radical people in charge of your moderate instance and not expect it to blow up

[–] DonaldJMusk 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yep, Ella was totally on board with giving the conservative community over to that troll. But I notice they haven't posted in two months. So maybe they are one of the admins stepping away from it because of stress?

So to be honest, I'm sorta celebrating Lemm.ee's demise. Just like they celebrated ruining the conservative community.

It's been hilarious watching people searching for a new instance saying they want an instance as "open" as Lemm.ee was. lol

[–] Chucklestheclown@hilariouschaos.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It was open under prior management. He did a good job of keeping it open. I have no idea where he sat politically and he defended the conservative community many times. He liked the diversity of ideas. Not sure he agreed with the conversations but he felt they should happen. That is why I like him so much. Ideas should be discussed. He also called people out on the Nazis claims.

[–] DonaldJMusk 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sucks that he stepped away. But since he's not running it any more, then good riddance

I mean that is my general opinion as well. He did a bang-up job, then handed it to people who crushed it.
