I know it's not significant, but why does he keep talking about making America "hot"? Like, I've heard him say this a couple of times and I don't get what sort of idiom he is going for here.

it's fucking weird, he means it as in like... people being excited about investing in America, and shit like that. In other words the exact opposite of what he's doing, which is driving a scramble of disinvestment in US trade

One of the funniest things about positions of power and "leadership" is that with each step removed from the bottom, the less likely you are to be faced with the truth of what's going on. Because in reality, anyone reporting to you fears for their job. Especially in an administration like Trump's. I can't imagine they are giving him anything but "we are doing great on trade agreements! We just got another 5-10 billion investment, disregard the fact we are losing 100s of billions in trade imports or manufacturing, or shipping prioritization, etc.
