Love smac played the heck out of it, but only got smax more recently and because it’s different to what my nostalgia goggles remember I can’t get into it. It’s like an uncanny valley version of my childhood memories. I think SMAC was my first introduction to philosophy from the project and technology quotes. As crazy as that is to say.

Anyway, Zakharov till I die.

Yang is decent, fantastic production, but poor econ and effic late game. Uni just has unbeatable perks and minimal drawbacks that can be negated pretty easily (hunter seeker algorithms?). The main issue is that Uni makes the game too easy. Hive is an excellent ai opponent though - the ai can actually play them quite well, unlike Lal or Morgan.

Hive, Spartan and Believers always seemed like the most capable AI.

Yeah, infrequently Gaia goes wild and snowballs but otherwise those three tend to do well, Spartan and believer do very well in the early game at least.
