It’s been the best handheld I’ve ever had hands down. The sheer volume of verified games and the versatility of the device are unrivaled. I’ve been able to put it in so many configurations and customize its use to what I need. I bought a wireless kb and mouse and a usb dongle to run everything into it and I’ve even gotten some xreal airs and can play with the projected screen and it works great. The best part? If I put them on and get in bed it allows you to play games while lying completely flat . That might not sound like it matters. But you cannot do that with any other device. You gotta turn your head or prop yourself up to play. It is peak laziness. And I live for it.

I love this thing. I'm finishing games that I probably never would have gotten around to playing previously. I'm consistently impressed with how well games run, and how many of them run. I run Linux on my desktop as well and there is pretty much nothing I play that can't be played on Linux/Steam Deck. I'm going overseas for 6 weeks in the near future, which would ordinarily mean I'm restricted to playing games on my phone. With Steam Deck and a dongle, I can continue to play all of the games I would play on my desktop. The Steam Deck and Proton have been revolutionary.

I’ve really enjoyed it while traveling. It real nice being able to throw some PlayStation controllers in my bag and having an instant console wherever I go. Every hotel ever will have some kind of hdmi cord running into a tv that you can hijack and plug it in. Don’t have to Fuck around with the switch dock system.

Hell you can cast from the steam deck straight to a tv if you want. I won’t lie, it didn’t run that great, but I bet I could tweak it and get it to work better.

I'm a Nintendo maniac and a Switch fan. Undoubtedly.

I love the Steam Deck. I've been blowing through old games like no tomorrow. I stream PS5 games and more intensive games from my desktop. It's been a delightful device. They really cleaned up the PC gaming experience.

I've had trouble getting my Stardew Valley working on it through Heroic because it's on GoG, but just may buy it on Steam.

Are you streaming cabled or wireless from your desktop? How is the latency?

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My PS5 and Desktop are wired but my Deck is not.

The latency seems fine but I'm not a very good gamer. Better gamers could be annoyed, but it seems fine to me. There's been the odd hiccup now and again with Chiaki (PS5 streaming) where things go gray but it doesn't bother me too much.

Ok, cheers, got the impression from some other posters that the latency was unbearable :-)
