It's a bait and switch.
Offer YouTube free for decades, using money from other revenue streams. Become a monopoly, kill everyone who can't compete with free.
Then switch to add lots of ads, or forcing people to pay, for the same service that became popular because it was free. Act like they did nothing wrong and claim that services are not free.
Act surprised that people are upset over this.
