Highlights: Dr. Bernice King is no stranger to watching people on social media use her father’s legacy to score a point. But this time, she’d clearly had enough of it.

On Wednesday, the daughter of the late-civil rights icon, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called out comedian Amy Schumer for implying that he would have supported Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.

Why is Amy Schumer so involved in all of this? As far as I can tell she has no horse in this race and so shouldn’t be speaking about it

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 39 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Or, why would anyone actually care what Amy Schumer says? She's not exactly a leading authority on anything.

I need to know what Ja Rule thinks.

[–] frickineh@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He said, "It's MUUURDAAA. Also, while Hamas is a terrorist organization and their attack should absolutely be condemned, Israel's response is disproportionate and they've all but admitted to war crimes, so that's not great."

Wow that's a surprisingly intelligent response from the artist who said "That's not fraud. That's uh, false advertising." While on video when talking about about the Fyre Festival, in which he helped defraud investors and customers.

Then again, he was also never charged with fraud and has since dodged huge lawsuits for restitution, so maybe he isn't that stupid... That's a scary thought.

Edit: This is satire guys.

Wait shit, I can't tell if you're joking. In case you're not, Ja hasn't actually commented on Israel/Palestine that I know of. Much like the Lorax speaks for the trees, I speak for Ja Rule.

[–] IDontHavePantsOn@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

In that case I would like to speak with THE LORAX. I know he's more like MF DOOM. All caps when you spell the man's name.

Or if you could put me in touch with whoever speaks for Levi's jeans. I have a bone to pick.

“Where’s Ja!?!!?”

"God I hate Billy McFarland."

Thanks I was looking for this comment!

Wait, is there some political figure named Amy Schumer or are we actually talking about Amy "my vagina" Schumer, the least funny female comedian since Lisa "I love big black cock" Lamponelli?

Please don't read me wrong. I fucking love Jean Garofolo, Maria Bamford, Joan Rivers, Taylor Tomlinson, Ali Wong, Wanda Sykes, Mae Martin... I just cant fathom why people would care about the white female version of Carlos Mencia's take on a war?

I'd rather hear Michelle Wolf's opinions on something of this nature, since politics is at least her wheelhouse, but I still wouldnt really take a lot of stock in thos opinions; she's a comedian. Well informed, yes, but an actual bonafide comedian.

If I needed to ask someone on how to write bad jokes, I wouldn't ask anyone else

[–] Waluigis_Talking_Buttplug@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

She's Jewish, the current actions of Isreal are causing a spike in anti Semitic stuff so she's directly effected by the current political climate.

She shared a video of Dr King talking about the state of Isreal in the 60s.

Of course Jewish people are going to feel a certain way after a terrorist attack on a country created specifically for Jews.

It's pretty easy to see her perspective if you take two seconds to imagine someone else's perspective. But that's hard for many people I guess.

She should still be criticized about this, but don't pretend like she doesn't get to have an opinion. That's almost as ridiculous as what she did.

[–] frozen@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

She's Jewish and (unfortunately) famous, so she feels like she needs to have a say.

[–] Arcane_Trixster@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

She made a post on Twitter, which millions of people do every day. She wasn't standing on a soap box in the Town Square. This headline is a major exaggeration of what she said, even.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. All this discussion about her's is just a chance to start up the Amy Schumer hate train again.
