The Colorado Supreme Court is removing former President Donald Trump from the primary ballot, saying he is ineligible to be president.
In a stunning and unprecedented decision, the Colorado Supreme Court removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 ballot, ruling that he isn’t an eligible presidential candidate because of the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.”
“Even when the siege on the Capitol was fully underway, he continued to support it by repeatedly demanding that Vice President (Mike) Pence refuse to perform his constitutional duty and by calling Senators to persuade them to stop the counting of electoral votes.
“President Trump’s direct and express efforts, over several months, exhorting his supporters to march to the Capitol to prevent what he falsely characterized as an alleged fraud on the people of this country were indisputably overt and voluntary.”
Ratified after the Civil War, the 14th Amendment says officials who take an oath to support the Constitution are banned from future office if they “engaged in insurrection.” But the wording is vague, it doesn’t explicitly mention the presidency, and has only been applied twice since 1919.
We have full confidence that the U.S. Supreme Court will quickly rule in our favor and finally put an end to these unAmerican lawsuits,” Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement.
Chief Justice Brian Boatright, one of the three dissenters on the seven-member court, wrote that he believes Colorado election law “was not enacted to decide whether a candidate engaged in insurrection,” and said he would have dismissed the challenge to Trump’s eligibility.

Wow. Wonder what will happen now? Civil war?
All this Civil War talk is just that. Talk. A very small number of kooks might blow something up or shoot people (you know, terrorist stuff), but 95% of Trumpists don't want to kill anybody.
They might have amassed arsenals in their basements but can't sleep without their CPAP machines. They're not mobilizing any time soon.
The civil war has been going on for a while. The Oklahoma City bombing, attacks on infrastructure, mass shootings, shooting protestors, etc, are all what modern civil war looks like. In Serbia, Rwanda, Syra, etc, it was generally not two sides with clear borders. It was snipers shooting people on their way to work and kids at schools. It was neighbors locking the doors and setting buildings on fire with people inside.
Right wing terrorism IS their civil war. It won't be a bunch of states seceding. It will be a slow escalation of terrorism with police being more and more involved in protecting or even carrying out terrorist actions.
Y'all are already well in it and most people won't even notice until it's way too late.
Edit: Unless, of course, blue states finally break away after Trump or whoever's right wing coup, at which point it will be a war with clear borders... And also random terrorism/resistence within those borders on both sides.
The one thing going for us is Trump's age and general health. He's well-established to not have the best diet nor excercise routine, and he seems to be not handling the stress of presidency and everything that's happened after it well (which to be fair, who would?)
We're already seeing the jockeying to fill the power vacuum he leaves when he passes, and it's simultaneously sad and scary
This is an interesting point you make. The far-right has been working behind the scenes since Goldwater to establish a permanent fascist culture. They are happy to use salesmen like Reagan, GWB, or Trump in order to consolidate a little more power, but Presidents come and go.
They want permanent power. And they're coming closer every year.
Alright.
Appeal to SCOTUS, which will probably overturn the decision?
Trump isn't worth anyone's time or effort.
Watch out for the gravy seals, bruh.
