A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

I don’t understand why people work as moderators for free for a for profit company. Maybe someone can explain why they are interested in cleaning up subreddits just so reddit can become rich?

I would think a mod is a mod for many reasons. Maybe they are passionate about a topic and want to build a community around it. Maybe they just like being in charge. Whatever their reason making Reddit rich is one of there reasons, it just happens to be a side affect.

I am not a mod but I was a very active on Reddit, voting, commenting etc.. I would like to think my actions benefit the community/platform overall. Ultimately making Reddit more profitable. However I wasn't doing it to make Reddit more profitable. I was doing it because I wanted to interact with the people, voice my opinion and have discussion. Reddit just happened to be the best platform for that.
