Or you could just... socialize πŸ€”

EDIT: Assuming it's two people who know each other already. Why would a stranger go up to you, to ask how's it going, when they don't know you at all?

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 61 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're the guy in the orange shirt, aren't you?

[–] kresten@feddit.dk 5 points 1 year ago

The guy asking about his day? Yes.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 48 points 1 year ago

You are not owed interpersonal interaction because you want it.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago

Or the other guy could just...leave him the fuck alone.

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 19 points 1 year ago

I don't get paid for that

Why socialise?

[–] kresten@feddit.dk 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If I recognize someone, then I'll ask them how's it going, either to be polite, or because I genuinely care about them

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Fuck whatever you are doing, I want to talk to you right now for not reason at all" is not a very polite message to pass.

If people make themselves uncomfortable just so they can clearly tell you that they do not want to talk to you... it may be because they don't want to talk to you.

[–] crossal@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If someone has headphones on, you can wave, and if they take them off then greet them. If they have no headphones in, you can just greet them

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you are waving at people that clearly aren't in the mood for empty chatting, it's certainly because you have something important to say.

[–] crossal@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Someone with headphones on does not necessarily mean they wouldn't want to chat. And a wave doesn't necessarily mean the waver wants to chat either (I don't mean waving right next to someone to get their attention)

[–] kresten@feddit.dk 1 points 1 year ago

I completely agree with you, also with the wave and greet. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Libraries = extroverts' worst nightmare.

[–] 001100010010@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Who goes to libraries these days? I just "download" books.

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

It's like fishing. I don't HAVE to do it. But I enjoy the atmosphere. It's one of the last things I have left in this world from my youth. I spent almost every free minute I could in school in either the library or computer lab.

[–] Feirdro@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Once, libraries were quiet places. Then computers took over. Now everyone’s got a smart phone I’m hoping they can be quiet again.

The Covid-infected atmosphere? No thanks

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

As if the people stupid enough to not take precautions against covid even know where their local library IS, let alone have any desire to enter πŸ™„

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago

Where are you? 2020?

[–] 2fat4that@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

YOU just got my very first down arrow!

[–] marx2k@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Don't do it. It's not worth it!

Nobody wants me to do that. You think you do, but you really don’t. One way or another someone’s getting their feelings hurt

[–] kresten@feddit.dk 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You both go on about your day after a polite exchange

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can't let people be can you?

[–] kresten@feddit.dk 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If I recognize someone I know, and I'm in a mood to chat, then no, probably not.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And you don't understand how that may come off as assholish behaviour.

[–] kresten@feddit.dk 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have absolutely no idea at all. Completely blank. I'm not American, so it's most likely a difference in culture. Chatting to people I know, has always been a pleasant experience.

/I'm serious, I'm completely oblivious to how it's assholish behaviour to talk to people I know-

[–] explodicle@local106.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm with you bro. After all that lockdown I'm never going to take it for granted again.

[–] kresten@feddit.dk 2 points 1 year ago
[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago

So basically exactly the same as if they left me alone? Except now I'm annoyed that I was interrupted for nothing?
