MODERATORS

Overall, 39% of U.S. adults say they are "extremely proud" to be American in the most recent poll.

Meanwhile, only 18% of those aged 18-34 said the same, compared to 40% of those aged 35-54 and 50% of those 55 and over.

18% is still too high. As Obama's pastor said, God damn America! Americans have very little to be proud of at this point.

Meaning, I was more ignorant, not that they were better then. All the really shitty voices got way louder and actually did a lot of crazy shit. If you watched publicfreakout before the insurrection, you could see the shitty voices on the airplanes coming from the south to go to it. Then they did the Jan. 6th stuff in support of a president that does a lot of evil things to a lot of people. I knew there were some, I didn't know it was that bad.

There are a lot of people who I don't agree with, I don't agree with most people. But it is very tribalist and imo honestly ridiculous to believe half of any country is genuinely evil.

[–] PeleSpirit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's not half of America, it's about 34% and most of the south. I'm not a fan of racists, homophobes, misogynists and haters, so yeah I think that's kind of evil. If they didn't express that hate, I wouldn't care, but they do.

You're a mod here then? Interesting. You shouldn't use the mod tag when you're conversing.

I don't think 34% of the US is racist, homophobic, or misogynistic. And, honestly, I think someone can be very wrong- and have beliefs I think are vile. Without themselves inherently being an evil person. Everyone is at least somewhat misguided at points in their lives.

I don't want to, but I don't think there's a way to turn it off? If you know how though I would appreciate it!

Do you think Pol Pot or Hitler were just misguided? I guess there's an argument for that and we know Hitler was on drugs. OK, let's agree on that, they're doing a lot of evil acts and/or supporting a fascist dictator who has no problem killing people just because they're different.

I looked but couldn't find anything for you, that sucks. That means you have a hard time participating in a forum you mod. You probably should use a different account or instance when you want to talk, the voyager app and the liftoff app easily switch between instances until they get that fixed. That should be on the priority list imo, this community is getting bigger and bigger and it will be harder on you in the long run.

[–] aidan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you think Pol Pot or Hitler were just misguided?

For those two examples no. But I think many of each of their followers were(but definitely not all).

I was going to do that, but I'm worried about how to do it transparently. I used to use a subreddit where the mod had 20 different accounts, obviously I wouldn't do that but it could still seem like I'm manipulating a conversation if I use an alt.

Even if they're not pure evil but go along with evil acts and/or perform them, what's the difference? Bad quote time: If you have 10 nazis and one 1 person that isn't at a table, you really have 11 nazis.

You could post in the sidebar what your alt is if you think it's necessary. I really think you should be able to use the site as a normal user and I think it's weirder to see the mod tag, but that's just my take.

The difference is one person wants to harm people, the other genuinely wants to do good but they are wrong on what is good. I think most people genuinely want to do good.

You could post in the sidebar what your alt is if you think it’s necessary.

Maybe, I'll think about it.

[–] PeleSpirit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think most people genuinely want to do good

I do too, about 66%

[–] aidan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I don't think all the good people are concentrated in one region, clearly segrated from bad people. Also, I think more than 2/3rds want to do good.

[–] LexiconDrexicon@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You do realize most black people live in the South right?

[–] PeleSpirit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Okay, I'll bite, what is the percentage? How many of them are in big cities because there's safety in numbers?

[–] LexiconDrexicon@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm not trying to "get you" or anything, but simply stating a fact, most black people in America live in the Southern part of the country.

"Regionally, the highest concentration of Black people in the U.S. in 2021 is in the South; more than half (56%) live there. Following the South, 17% live in each the Midwest and the Northeast and 10% live in the West.

When it comes to states of residence, Texas is home to the largest Black population, at about 4.0 million. Florida comes in a close second with 3.8 million, and Georgia comes in third, with 3.6 million."

https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/fact-sheet/facts-about-the-us-black-population/

If we do urban vs. rural, then the highest concentration of Black Americans would be in New York City, followed by Atlanta

[–] PeleSpirit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

So Texas has a 13.4% black population and the US in general has 13.6% according to the US census, that's not a a huge percentage and that's my point. Even assuming everything you're posting is true, saying they mostly live in the south is very misleading. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/TX/RHI225222
