This is a case of knowing your audience. This article was written by a furry and I got about zero idea what the hell they're talking about.

He’s a Steve!

I understood all the lingo except Steve. I don’t know that one.

Edit: Apparently it’s another name for non-furries.

Fleshies / Smoothies: Outsiders to the fandom. Furries often make fun of them as “Steve” or “Steves”.

This is the kind of quality education I come to this place for.

I've never heard that term. Most furries I know use the more universal "normie".

I love that nickname. It’s both gentle and brutal, and must make every furry named Steve feel so awkward.

[–] flicker@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm willing to bet it has to do with the default Minecraft skin.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

That makes sense. I assumed it was because it’s a name you just know someone’s parents gave them.

[–] Climinteedus@yiffit.net 4 points 10 months ago

Steve is the default name for any otter.

What's your opinion on this @notsteve_

[–] FraidyBear@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Same here! It was all just words with no meaning for me but I'm glad those crazy kids are having fun. You do you Furry Fandom.. Furdom.. Furrydom??? Idk someone's going to have to enlighten me on this one.
