They've been A/B testing ads in the Start Menu since Windows 7 (though I see this is hinted at in the bottom of the mini-article). I'm amazed to see some commenters here say they haven't seen ads, but rest assured that millions of Windows users out there already have been seeing ads in their start menu for years. This is not some huge change.
