What would happen to him? Asking for a friend.

The packet contains silica dioxide, which is non-toxic. The only reason the bags make such a big deal about not eating them is to make sure you don't mistake them for food they might be packed with, and because the bag itself is a potential choking hazard.

From what I understand, nothing. There isn't anything harmful about them unless you ingest enough to choke or cause blockages.

Presumably similar to if you ate a comparable amount of really clean sand. Can't imagine it feels great coming out but otherwise just takes up space as it goes through your body.

You will wake up from the dream. But they don't want you to know the truth.

See? Because of me, now there’s a warning!

[–] CraigeryTheKid@lemm.ee 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

My kid literally opened one up and ate all the beads.

Called poison control.

"Is he choking? No? Then he's fine, those things are inert & harmless"

Apparently eating the baggy itself is a chocking hazard? Otherwise: nothing, nothing happens.

Well the gel absorbs liquid. Silica packets are not to be taken internally.

See all that liquid stuff in there, Homer? That’s why your robots had severe cramps and constipation for hours.

My cat would try and eat the ones that come with beef jerky . Would just seem to make her really thirsty.

[–] threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Are you sure the thirstiness was due to the silica beads, and not the jerky?

[–] bighatchester@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

She didn't eat the jerky she pulled the empty bag out of the garbage. Also when I googled it since it was worried it also said it would make her thirsty and not harm her .

Ha, cats are so weird sometimes.
