I used to be excited by new things in tech but all I can think is "what the fuck now"

Please tell me its not just me getting old

Even at a lower level, i use to see "update" and think oo what feature or functionality has come out?

Now its like "fuck im forced to update, what feature are they removing or putting behind a paywall now"

It's only logical. They already show ads. When they run their own ad tech stack, they cut out the middle man and earn all the money themselves.

Sure it takes a bit of work to get customers and such, but when you're a company of that size with that many customers, it shouldn't be that hard.

you're right, everything sucks now. literally everything is about stuffing ads in your face and spying on you. on top of taking your money of course.

It's not just you getting old. Tech and products in general have been getting worse for years now. They don't try to make amazing products any more. A select few companies have cornered the entire market in every single industry, so now their goal is to make a product that extracts the absolute maximum profit.
