Welcome

We're not The Onion! Not affiliated with them in any way! Not operated by them in any way! All the news here is real!

The Rules

Posts must be:

  1. Links to news stories from...
  2. ...credible sources, with...
  3. ...their original headlines, that...
  4. ...would make people who see the headline think, “That has got to be a story from The Onion, America’s Finest News Source.”

Comments must abide by the server rules for Lemmy.world and generally abstain from trollish, bigoted, or otherwise disruptive behavior that makes this community less fun for everyone.

And that’s basically it!

I made a comment to this effect the other day. Scrolling through this community, out of about the 10 most recent posts, I see one that is borderline oniony and the rest are just straight up news, mostly US politics-related.

Is this OK? Is this what this community is for? I ask because I want to see can't-believe-it's-real headlines, but if this is going to be another doom scroll bad news sub I'm going to leave and look elsewhere. Just curious to hear people's feelings on this before I do.

There is at least one bot dragging over NTO from the other place and it does tend to have less political content: !nottheonion@zerobytes.monster I suppose it falls to the users here to post more of what they think fits and report what they feel doesn't. We can help define the remit of this place if we feel it is going down the wrong track.

It also depends in what you are looking for - there are other weird news communities on Lemmy, I've tried to list them in the sidebar at !andfinally@feddit.uk

It's still a bit of a mix but then it can be subjective but it's another source of NOT news and we have to curate our own feeds.
