We were lucky enough to be able to repair our old Vitamix when it started surging the power every time the variable speed knob was moved. A guy an eBay had diagnosed the problem and was selling cheap diy kits with instructions to solve it.

I think this is a reasonable and environmentally friendly solution for recalls that can be easily remediated, especially as here the problem seems a little silly. Our previous blender had the blades separate from the container as a feature for cleaning. No one was hurt.
