I think you misunderstood me, I'm not trying to make some point about "LLMs aren't 'real AI'" or even what is and is not AI. I'm just saying the post is talking about that type of AI specifically and I wouldn't say those types are controlling that much of the world.

It was a Santa skeleton on display in late January/early February that I hadn't taken down yet in case it wasn't clear. The law for my city is no holiday decorations more than 30 days past the holiday. (I live in the incorporated area of the city, it's possible if I lived in the unincorporated area the laws might be more lenient. Though I do not live in the so-called historic district.)

It's easy to get pissed off about it but the reality is they didn't cite me for a Halloween decoration in December, they accepted that it was not a Christmas decoration because of the Santa hat. (Something we did for fun, not to get around a law.) So they were already being pretty lenient. Also, it's not like the citation showed up immediately on the 31st day once we didn't take it down. And we didn't get a fine or anything.

It still made me upset, but all things considered it was pretty tame.

Next year we might make it into a Valentine's Skeleton but do it before the 30 day mark from Christmas. It's probably easier to dodge a citation than argue that my Halloween Skeleton is no longer an infringing Christmas Decoration but instead now a Valentine's Skeleton because I gave it a little Cupid's Bow or something instead of a Santa Hat. Know what I mean? It makes sense in my head. Not sure if I'm explaining it well over text. Sort of similar to those "harder to ask permission" type situations.

I feel like you're being incredibly generous with the usage of AI here. I feel as though the post and comment above refer to LLM/image generation AI. Those "types of 'AI'" certainly don't run all those things.

Doom 2016 wouldn't start for me. The loading screen just hung forever. Weirdly other people had the same complaint. If I knew I could refund it a second time I might try it again.

Congress creates agency to assist them in their duties. Agency works as intended and does them. Court blocks them by saying "you were made to do X, not X."

The comment I made on reply to another comment hits here as well

We can think of weird edge cases all day, the fact is companies shouldn't be able to hoard IP.

For fuck's sake though, talk about strawman arguments. "Literally every doodle you make" when we're talking about abandonware. My eyes nearly rolled out of my fucking head reading that. Do I need to start putting disclaimers on every post I make? "I am aware there is more nuance required before a law gets suggested but I sure wish companies couldn't hoard old media without making it available, please don't 'um, actually' me by suggesting I'm implying everyone must give me copies of their personal shopping lists."

You should be legally required to offer content you have on a copyright or else allow people to "pirate" it. The same way you must defend trademarks. If you don't actually offer content you have the copyright for them you shouldn't be allowed to prevent people from distributing it as abandonware.

Make sure to make ample use of mixed content elements.

Sun Clock (sunclock.net)

(I did not make this project.)

I love this website. It helps me visualize time with regards to the sun very well. If I could get my FitBit to display this as a clock face I definitely would. It's such a beautifully simple site.

I'm sharing it in honor of the solstice today. It's (roughly) solar noon on the east coast. I think I found this site on Reddit prior to the Lemmy Exodus, so I'd like to share it here for everyone to enjoy. Happy solstice. Happy summer (or winter for our friends in the southern hemisphere).

Also, based on the community info panel I believe this is on topic here, but if there is a better community for "cool site I found" let me know. ❤️☀️

I feel like a case can really make or break a build. Or at least your enjoyment of it. My specs are below, but I sort of picked a case at random. I'm looking for suggestions.

My current build has served me since 2010 and it's time to upgrade the CPU, Motherboard, and case. Everything that can be replaced easily has been and it's really showing it's age. I mention this because it's likely the case I pick will be used for the next ten years of my life!

Stuff I care about

  • Ease of opening for cleaning/assembling. Part of why I don't clean my current on as much as I should is how annoying it is to open.
  • Ease of moving. I'm more interested in handles than weight, but I still don't want something stupidly heavy.
  • Size. I'd prefer something a little too big rather than something a little too small. I don't necessarily want a full tower though. As long as I can get in easily and there is some extra room for the next GPU I'll inevitably buy in the next 10 years I'm good.

Stuff I don't care about

  • Water cooling. I have zero interest in getting custom water cooling. Too much effort for me.
  • Looks. I don't really want some crazy RBG thing, but I also don't specifically need some super minimalist thing either.
  • Price. So, obviously I don't want to waste money, but if I need to splurge a little I'm willing to. Within reason.

I don't get a very detailed error message but it fails and tells me to try reinserting it. I've tried a few times. It fails at different percentages sometimes. Any thoughts or ways to get a more detailed error message? I have Mac and Linux too.

I failed the strength check despite being a paladin and using inspiration. I never saw him again even after getting through nearly all of act 2. I've asked this before, maybe even in this community, but no one gave a concrete answer, likely because the game was still new.

Not really Cassette Futurism (or Vaporwave) but I think folks here might like it still.

Not really Vaporwave, but not too sure where it fits. These styles inspired a lot of Vaporwave things so I thought you might enjoy.

This thread is frustrating. Everyone seems more interested in nitpicking the specifics of what OP is saying and are ignoring that a forum sends you your password (not an automatically generated one) in an email on registration.

I have an unfinished basement. It would be a great place for a workshop but some hobbies don't do well in a dusty environment. Would setting up an air purifier help? Even then I'm concerned it wouldn't get the entire volume of air.

One idea is to just cover the area in a tarp (or something more permanent) while not in use.

I hate to tidy up and will very likely forget even if I don't get lazy and I don't want to have stuff get dusty because it's laying out for a while.

I assume the dust is coming from the rafters when we walk around upstairs but I'm not certain.

The hobbies are pretty varied. Electronics (like Arduinos), sewing, painting, etc. Nothing crazy like woodworking or metalworking which create their own dust though. The dust is just the normal dust you see in basements lol.

MSOutlookit is a "skin" for Reddit that makes it look like Outlook. In case the joke isn't clear it makes it easier to hide Reddit browsing at work from folks looking over your shoulder. http://pcottle.github.io/MSOutlookit/

It's just super disheartening to see Reddit themselves show this off after killing third party apps.

I feel like I'm losing my damn mind. I would've reloaded (or literally restarted the entire game) if I realized how much content a single damn skill check less than 30 minutes in would make me miss by failing. I feel like I've been nearly everywhere in Act 1. Where the fuck is he? Did I miss him? I'm like 30 hours in now. I don't want to restart the game.
