A large update is also coming soon.

Starfield got off to a strong start on Xbox breaking all sorts of records for Bethesda and now the development team is looking ahead to the future with the upcoming Shattered Space Story Expansion.

During an appearance on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Todd Howard has mentioned how the expansion DLC is expected to launch in Fall 2024. Before this, players can look forward to some big updates coming soon.

It was well received, decently stable, and fun for what it was. Lots of big name developers can't manage that these days.

Perhaps I am completely off base, but I didn't think it was that well received, at least not for being a bethesda game

Iirc it still sold really well (especially with preorders) and even I apparently put 20 hours into it, I tried so hard to like it...

I think it’s just one of those polarizing kind of games. I barely put 5hours into it but I have some friends still playing through the NG+ loop after 100s of hours.

I feel like it started really strong but as people completed the game a lot of people started saying it was dull.

83 and generally favorable on metacritic currently.

That’s subjective. I thought it was fine.

It started really strong until people spent time with the game

This will be the first time that nobody gets mad at Bethesda for breaking mods with an update

Do we know anything about the DLC?

If it's just a generic stuff pack like the recent Fallout 4 "free update" I don't think it will be enough to get me to try Starfield.

The latter part of the article seems to be about the update and not the DLC

As summed up by Xbox fan Klobrille on social media, the updates include new display modes on console, new shipbuilding features, city maps, new gameplay, difficulty options, and some additional "surprises".

Yeah, "strong start" is dubious.

I'm not considering the game fully released until the creation kit comes out.

If it doesn't come till after the DLC, I'm just not buying the DLC till it comes.

Well, it did have a strong start. It was highest sold Bethesda games, IIRC.

As for the how the game played, that's a completely separate matter.
