I can't tell if these people are actually a decent party or not. Are they affiliated with Trotskyist organisations? Is that even a bad thing?

They are pretty good where I live supporting the Palestine protests and worker marches, not a member but they seem to be growing decently. Don't agree with all their rhetoric but at the end of the day I would rather have them growing as an alternative to the NDP

Yeah it seems like supporting Palestine is a good test for real leftists, I'm glad for that at least.

I've heard mixed things. Where I live, they have a bad reputation, but I have friends online who are in the party in other cities who say it's alright. Probably varies by specific party club to some extent.

It's the IMT

[–] drinkinglakewater@hexbear.net 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Am I reading correctly that their membership is around 800 or is that just referring to attendees?

[–] trot@hexbear.net 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yes, but this is just the Canadian section.

Kinda surprising, I figured they'd be a little bigger given how visible they seem to be in Canada, but I guess that's just good marketing on their part

These IMT guys are pretty annoying and mostly useless where I live (Portugal) but hopefully they're better elsewhere. The idea of trots in every country having 1 party to pool around instead of several isn't terrible if they try not to, in practice, carry water for imperialism

"The RCP is not a national organization. We are first and foremost members of the Revolutionary Communist International (RCI)—of which we are merely the Canadian section."

This kind of semantics is pretty cringe though, you're a national canadian political party, you're just a part of an international alliance, just say it

"The communists have arrived" the communist party of canada has existed for more than 100 years but okay. This is the kind of obnoxious stuff that makes people hate trots, showing up out of nowhere, pushing to the front of marches/protests and acting like you're the vanguard simply for existing.

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, that's really annoying. But how do you know they're Trots?

Just curious, looked at the article but didn't see it mentioned.

[–] Edamamebean@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

They say themselves on their website they are part of the IMT
