Or you type into Google "what's the song that goes dun dundun dooo dodododo dooo" and you somehow get the right result because some other monkey asked the same question on a message board and by some stroke of luck got an answer.

This worked for the funeral dancing song because I couldn't remember what it was from but it was stuck in my head for a week.

Thanks for reminding me of this

Good idea! Although sometimes YouTube comes back immediately with a violation warning email, but sometimes it takes YEARS for them to flag a video.

I got all the Buffy animation I could find to make a season 8 intro and that shit was up for a decade before it got a claim

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 31 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Wait... you can search a song by humming now?

I've been waiting for that for AGES.

[–] Thorry84@feddit.nl 32 points 6 months ago (2 children)

You can, but it never works in my experience.

[–] Denvil@lemmy.one 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It's worked every time in my experience

I used to use Midomi, not sure if it's still good

[–] Denvil@lemmy.one 3 points 6 months ago

I've just used google, can't seem to get it to work on mobile for me rn tho, been a while since I've had to use it

[–] dditty@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

It's the native Google app. If you do a search using the mic button there should be a button towards the bottom that says search a song and then you can hum or sing a song and it recognizes it almost every time

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago

Same. I think I've had it actually work like once out of 50 tries

[–] Feugnis@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

If you use the Google assistant either with the Google app on ios or built into some android phones you can just ask it "what's this some" and then hum it

[–] nyctre@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

Worked with smoke on the water, not with the pink panther theme. Some of the easiest songs to hum, imo. Sure, I suck at this, but still...anyway, something extra to try when I can't remember the name of a song. Thanks!

Problem is, you only have like, 3 free trials. After that you need a new account

Ask social media, writing down how you think the instruments sound because you don't know a single lyric (or it has none).

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Just post it somewhere with the wrong name. A pedant will come along to breathlessly correct you.

[–] metaStatic@kbin.social 5 points 6 months ago

Actually that would be Darude's law

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago

Hope that nobody realizes that the clip you posted was recorded from a porn.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

Wow, I literally did this yesterday cause I couldn’t find a song from a tik tok my son was watching and all I had was a small clip I recorded.

No copyright strike ever came, though. Eventually I found it on Spotify by listening to similar vibe playlists.

[–] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 5 months ago

actually quite effective, when I uploaded a video from 1993, I got copyright striked cuz it contained a song from 2012
