Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

She is the worst. For someone who hates crying she freaking does so much of it… and the vanity she is .. like Kim K level.

This is a classic from the back catalogue. I love when this pops up because who compliments someone on their jawline? Maybe it happens but it seems ridiculous to me and shows the level body checking she’s indulging in daily. We haven’t heard anything about the body-swelling and those pesky cortisol spikes. It’s so strange her many aliments just disappear when another shows up to take its place.

I do not recall anyone ever complimenting her on her really sculpted jaw line. She would have told us all about that. Her jaw isn’t sculpted, it’s loose, like her dad’s. Nothing wrong with that at all…she is the one who is making it seem flawed.

[–] FraudulentFruit1@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I have never once looked at someone and said damn what a perfectly sculpted jawline 😂

[–] DoomPile@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I remember when she was talking about this. I rolled my eyes so hard. That is typically a compliment men get and even then, most people don't go out of their way to say it. She’s so full of it. I can’t imagine telling a woman that she has such a nicely sculpted jawline. It would be like telling her you admire her perfectly symmetrical kneecaps or something.

It’s just the weirdest thing to lie about but is such a huge tell! We all know people like her and they lie just to lie. They don’t need a reason but don’t ever challenge the lie because they go ballistic!

[–] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 months ago

LOL right? She’s acting like she’s Bella Hadid or something.

[–] Aforeigneramongfriends@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 months ago

And the filter is still on as she cries about a perfect jawline that has never existed in the last ten years. Such a great moment of her delusions.

I've seen this video so many times, and it never ceases to amaze me. This is a 38 year old mother of 4 having a meltdown over not getting compliments.

[–] Uhohla@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Haha.

Ive never actually seen the whole video with sound.

That is so ridiculous!

I mean she’s obviously lying. But also yeah we all have insecurities and sometimes we are very irrational about them.

But to put that shit for everyone to see?! To cry about it as an adult woman? And to actually be like “its hardd, its really hard”. How embarrassing.

Like yeah fuckin a’, I would also love to look (for real real) like the “perfect version of myself”. But to literally make that video while jutting your lips and jaw out. Sigh.

If my mom or my friend made a video like that, I would be getting them help.

I just watched it again and all I can think is - what happens if she ever has to take steroids for some reason. The treatment can be life-saving but it really changes your face. The meltdown about how she looks is really over-the-top and the reference to getting these compliments for 10 years, the years since losing 100 lbs, and how important they are to her is so telling. She will do anything to keep that jawline looking snatched! That’s what it says to me. And then she’ll lie and say it’s just natural because she’ll also do anything to keep her platform.

[–] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I take steroids and I am just vain enough for it to really bother me. They are magical but brutal.

How old is this video? She’s never this honest anymore.

This was about a year ago. It was soon after last year’s Reitman’s launch and her day guest hosting BT wearing the huge, shapeless denim dress. If I’m remembering correctly there was some connection she was making between her ‘training’ for the Disney 10K and the face swelling .

Once you start catching onto her you can’t unsee it and there is a definite pattern. Public appearance where photos and videos are released where she has no control over the product. She looks completely different and people start wondering why. Then comes the break down and the excuses and casting herself as a victim to bullies. She wrote the script long ago and follows it faithfully

I’m glad we didn’t completely lose touch with each other. Grateful for the new space ❤️

God I can’t stand her. The gulping and looking away from the camera are such telltale signs of lying. Also no lip filler to be seen here, of course 👄.

[–] Spicykitty@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago

THAT CAN BE REALLY HARD, ya know!!! 😂

[–] Cheesecake@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago

Has she ever stopped and googled the side effects of face fillers? Swelling is one of the top ones. I have a sneaking suspicion that’s where any “swelling” she’s talking about comes from. Those lips are something else 👁️ 👄 👁️

OK I have 2 questions:

-who is this person (not literally who, but why is she significant) -why am I suddenly seeing multiple posts in my feed about her on a comm with less than 200 users?

Was this a reddit sub that was banned that has migrated here? It's a little jarring to see a community dedicated to shitting on a single person (influencer?). Maybe it's because I quit Instagram about the time TikTok was becoming a thing and haven't paid the influencer economy any attention but this is... weird. It's weird, right?

[–] urfriendjen@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I can definitely see how that would be jarring and how, without knowing the backstory, it might look bad and be frustrating for existing Lemmy folks.

While at first glance it may seem like “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation, posting proof of her lies, etc than just snark for snarks sake. She’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people, stole intellectual property and employment from people, and they’re understandably upset that their voices have been silenced.

I don't take issue with it, I'm just not accustomed to seeing it.
