I want them to make a Harry Potter souls like. Let me play as one of the Marauders during the first Wizarding War.

[-] morphballganon@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Oohhh Sirius would be the best choice I think, so it can go on after James's death and you can confront Peter at the end

I'm all for another game in the franchise, but quidditch isn't a very compelling part of the world for me.

as a sports game, quidditch feels shaky. its fine for narrative purposes, but it's not a real sport. so I'm not sure how they will build it into one.

[-] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 3 weeks ago

"Ramirez has caught the parking lot frog" sums it up so succinctly.

[-] Donut@leminal.space 13 points 3 weeks ago

Seems like a lot of folks are not really interested in the quirky sport, so saying fans are rejoicing because of this announcement sounds like they don't really understand why people played HL.

Its like saying Dark Souls fans rejoice because From Software announced a fitness spinoff called Yoga with Solaire. Okay actually, they might. Bad example.

[-] Nima@leminal.space 2 points 3 weeks ago

I went to ddg looking for yoga with solaire and then found nothing and was heartbroken.

but yeah I'm a huge HL and HP fan in general and I'm planning to skip this one because I don't really care about quidditch. its only real interest to me was as a cool plot tool. nothing more.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Honestly they could've had a quidditch minigame in HL. The two that are in it are fun, but they either need to be replayable without having to start a whole new story, or add more minigames based around causing mischief and having fun with your wizard friends.

[-] Killing_Spark@feddit.de 6 points 3 weeks ago

Afaik there are people actually playing quidditch, brooms and all. So there must be something playable there

[-] Nima@leminal.space 9 points 3 weeks ago

I always thought the whole point of quidditch was to put the protag as the most important position in the game.

but yeah I've seen "quidditch" being played. I'm just not certain how compelling it is without a protagonist player.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

I could see a quidditch game kinda work if it was like a hero shooter or whatever. Each team has a roster of certain characters with different stats to fulfill the different roles. There could be a snitch, but just make it so incredibly fast that it comes down to pure luck if you happen to catch it. Or just make different playable modes like "no snitch" and "with snitch".

[-] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

I have played quidditch, with the broom.

I spent more time trying not to trip over said broom than actually playing. And I'm somewhat athletic. It wasn't great.

Agreed but what does that have to do with a work created by a team of hundreds of people?

[-] Nima@leminal.space 7 points 3 weeks ago

nothing whatsoever. but they need to feel important about something, I suppose.

[-] Ganbat@lemmyonline.com -2 points 3 weeks ago

Put simply, a terf owns the IP, money flows back to her. Outright denial of this fact is borderline transphobic itself.

[-] GlitchZero@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago
[-] Ganbat@lemmyonline.com -2 points 3 weeks ago

Not at all. In fact, denial is a common tactic. See the "racism doesn't exist" crowd for a prime example. I think you'll find it's full of racists.

[-] GlitchZero@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Alright so first off; denying your incorrect claim that she makes money from this game is not the same as “outright transphobia”. That statement is actually deranged.

Secondly, WB owns the rights to HP games, as mentioned elsewhere in the comments.

This hill isn’t the one to die on, my guy.

[-] Ganbat@lemmyonline.com -2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Rowling owns the rights to the Harry Potter IP, a fact that can easily be verified using multiple sources with a simple search. As such, she makes royalties on every single use of the IP.

And BTW, no one denied that she makes any money from it, they just denied that it matters.

I also never made the claim that denying that she makes money makes you an "outright transphobe" (a phrase I also never said, despite your quotes.) I stated that denying the relevance or existence of transphobia is the same as a tactic used by racists.

Everything you just said, and everything you attributed to me, actually only happened in your own head. At first I thought you might just be confidently incorrect, but the absolute depth of your lies makes the truth clear.

Opaquely lying like this is also a tactic used by various types of bigot. It's called a "straw man argument," is an unethical tactic that adds nothing to the debate, is a favorite of bigots everywhere, is generally applied when one has no real argument, and is only effectively applied in far less obvious manners than this.

Oh god just remembering the vitriol from legacy's launch is tiring, really hope people just ignore this ones existence rather than stoop so low as to threaten to kill peoples cats

[-] hal_5700X@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago

So it begins....again.

[-] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I bought Hogwarts Legacy against my better judgement, and the game had one of the worst main stories I've ever played. Honestly exploring the world was more fun than the story, and you can only do so much exploring.

[-] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, the main story was pretty terrible. The console controls for broom flying were also criminally bad.

I really liked the combat, though, and exploring the world was nice. Playing some of the puzzles was also fun. Even though the collect-them-all achievements were extremely vast (so much so that I didn't even both trying for any of them when I found how ridiculously tedious it would have been to go after them), it wasn't a deep game. But it was fun for a short time.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I liked the little "rpg-lite" elements thrown around like getting to snack on candy and drinking butter beer and such. They really should've leaned more into that, but who knows what was going on behind the scenes with WB and all.

[-] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com -5 points 3 weeks ago

Hogwarts legacy was generic crap.
