I thought we found out the main reason for 9/11 happening was bush's administration ignoring the multiple warnings being given by the pentagon?
Gore could very likely have meant the attack never happened—imagine how different the world could have been
Which is why you vote against the GOP in every election.
They have been wrong about everything since Nixon.
Oil man Cheney wanted to open Afghanistan to a pipeline project.
Gore probably would have used special ops teams to locate and extract bin Ladn.
Also, the Taliban destroyed statues of the Buddha that had stood for centuries. That happened in March of 2001. The Bush administration didn't want to hurt the oil deal, so they let the Taliban go ahead. Gore might have done more to stop the destruction. Seeing America take a firm stand on a minor issue might have deterred the Afghans from allowing bin Ladn to hide there.
Another thing. There was a report issued before the 9/11 attack. If Gore had been President, the White House might have acted to stop the attack.
It was more than about oil pipelines. A lot of people felt like we helped break Afghanistan, so we should help fix it. And we almost did. Things were turning around, albeit slowly and costly, until Trump turn coated against the provincial government and gave the country over to the Taliban, erasing twenty years of progress, condemning millions of Afghanis to live and die under far right religious law. Should be no surprise, that's what Republicans want for America.
Is the assumption we would have still ended up in Afghanistan? With Gore as president im not sure that would be a guarantee.
Afghanistan was protecting bin Ladn. I think any President would have taken action.
There's a good chance that the 2003 Iraq war wouldn't have happened, though. That was very much a Neo-Con project of the Bush administration.
That's a whole other issue.
in my opinion, Bush Jr. was going to invade Iraq no matter what. 9/11 was just the excuse.
I thought this whole thought exercise was based on the assumption that Gore became president in 2000 instead of Bush?
he would have concentrated on it and not gone into iraq and it would have at least halved the number of wars and eaths but likely even less than that being that it would have ended sooner given it would have been what was conentrated on and the objective the whole time would have been alkada and binladen.
If 9/11 happened and we went to Afghanistan, it would have been over at Tora Bora
