Op-eds, AKA a semi-random person's opinion. Bloggers, TikTokers, and Insta.... whatevers are just the next progression.

It's either that or a political hit piece that they can publish under the banner of "we didn't say it, the person who wrote it did." Op-ed is rarely used for journalism or thought pieces any more. It's all yellow journalism and clickbait wearing sheep's clothing.
