Sylvia Rivera, born on July 2 in 1951, was a Latina American queer rights activist, member of the Gay Liberation Front, and community worker from the state of New York.

Rivera, who identified as a "half-sister", participated in demonstrations with the Gay Liberation Front. With her close friend Marsha P. Johnson, Rivera co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), a socialist group dedicated to helping homeless young drag queens, gay youth, and trans women.

At different times in her life, Rivera battled substance abuse and lived on the streets, largely in the gay homeless community at the Christopher Street docks. Her experiences made her more focused on advocacy for those who, in her view, mainstream society and the assimilationist factions of the LGBT community were leaving behind.

Rivera died during the dawn hours of February 19th, 2002, at St. Vincent's Hospital, of complications from liver cancer. Activist Riki Wilchins said this of her: "In many ways, Sylvia was the Rosa Parks of the modern transgender movement, a term that was not even coined until two decades after Stonewall".

Anime where the plot progression goes from All Time Low's Dear Maria as the opening to Rise Against's The Violence for the next season.

So speaking of covid shit. Is it possible to get a bunch of those new fangled UV lights just for personal use? Can I wear them on a hat brim and walk around? Can I get a lamp for my desk and keep my room safe from my roommates? Has anyone heard of such a thing?

My understanding is you need UV-C to disinfect stuff and UVC IS VERY BAD FOR YOUR EYES. VERY VERY VERY BAD.

Remember that cryptobro show where they burned everyone's eyes out? It was apparently because they sourced sketchy UV lights with no UV filters.

If you're going to fuck with it do your reading, get your lights from a reputable (whatever that means anymore) seller, and be very careful about eye safety. Part of the problem with UV is that you can't see it, so your eyes don't have the reflex to squint or closed when you're looking at a dangerously brigh UV source. You don't know you're being harmed until you start getting swimmies in your vision.

Afaik it's not a portable thing. If you want to clean the air in a house you're going to want to install UV-C lights in a vent or something that moves air through it so the virus gets burned out of the air as it passes through the vent. There are disinfecting wands but I think they're mostly for germs on surfaces and Covid doesn't really spread much from surfaces.

Overall I think it's mostly a solution for large buildings, or for an entire building if you have some kind of central HVAC system and could convince the building owner to install a UV system.

I'm a big fan of Corsi-Rosenthal boxes. Get a 20in x 20in box fan, four furnace filters that are HEPA or better, and make a box by taping them together then just leave it running all the time. It'll clean all kinds of crap out of the air in a home or appartment very quickly.

One of the vote libs from the debate-era threads started responding to the thread again. I actually feel a little bad that it's still living in their head. Why continue fighting on the Internet when the audience is long gone?

Considering the feasibility of adopting white supremacist/dominionist logic and rationale to pitch a society that excludes Conservative White Christian heterosexuals. It’S fReEdOm Of AsOcIaTiOn. Riff on one of those network state geeks and call it “Folsom Forever” or some shit in accordance with the right’s projects and the whole malicious compliance motif I’d be going for

Do you ever sense words on a page before you actually read them? Sometimes I just get some kind of sense that some words that are important to me are on a page or a computer screen and then I search it until I find them

Overhead drone footage of the Space Pioneer static-fire rocket test that came unmoored.. It broke free almost instantly on engine ignition. And an interesting fact we didn't have before, it had a spin on launch as well.

Are there any documentaries other than how yukong moved the mountains that really show socialism in action?

K, can someone here help me think of a way I can stop the power button of my Switch console from getting pressed. I have a bag I keep it in and when I pull it out the battery is frequently dead because I'm assuming the power button is getting pressed when I put it into the bag or it gets pressed when the bag is moved around or something. I took it home fully-charged and powered it off and left it alone all day and the power drained like 2-3% maybe so it can't be that. Maybe I need to recalibrate the battery or something, but I'm suspecting it's the power thing 'cause it's hacked and I have auto-RCM (no power-using sysmodules installed as far as I know) and I suspect it's entering that state and then sitting there with the screen off but drawing way more power than usual.

I was hoping they made 5mm little switch covers like this but they don't make them that small. I could just adhere it to the top over the power switch.

So can't do that. I have a really nice grip on the console already so I won't/can't buy a case that would shield the power button. I guess I could buy a thin one and then out the chunk around the power/vol buttons and glue that but that would look like shit and be very irreversible so I'm not doing that. Can't really think of any sort of cloth or cover I could drape over it since the power button's kinda' sensitive and close to the surface. Don't think there are any power button mods, especially for someone with 3/10 soldering/electronic skills like I have.

Unless there's some other button combo that can turn the device that I'm not aware of like the volume buttons, home button, etc... Is this a common problem for them?

late night book postI think I have ever successfully ~~forced at gunpoint~~ ~~coerced by threat~~ convinced an entire two people to read any of my particularly weird A Novels.

The first one was this hillarious smalltown 20 year old cishet guy, and for whatever fucking reason the dude decided he was gonna read fucking Manhunt by Gretchen Felker Martin, which was such a bruh moment. I felt like you need the context of at least Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones to get it, but I also could not stop this guy reading it, I was so morbidly curious.

Guy concluded that it was Misogynistic and had too much sex in it, which was a big lmao to me. I guess he read this 'cause it says it's splatterpunk, and bro is big into S. Craig Zahler novels, but chat: Zahler writes books where "torture porn" is putting a live scorpion in a dude's stomach. It's entirely "woooooah bro!!!" spectacle, where Manhunt is an unflinching depiction of and engagement with extremely brutal trauma. A fuckin "check the cw's" kinda book. He fuckin noped out at like 30% lmao.

The other is that I forced my wife to read The Last Girl Scout by Natalie Ironside! That actually went acceptably, she kinda likes it, which is cool cause it's a nifty little (750 pages or w/e) book. This is the only time a weird, freaky, horrifying "A Novel" rec has worked out for me; I can recommend books all day, I'm Not Bad at it, but this specific category of "weird" books makes people recoil, which is funny.
