Does anyone know of other open source tools for this kind of thing?

I haven't tried this one myself yet. It does have a free option, but there are some limitations. Big ones being:

  • Resolution up to 2000×2000 pixels
  • 3 map exports per month

This looks great, but also GNU Octave or Guile Lisp Scheme/Racket. Any will work on these kinds of geometric data simulations.
