I don't think this is a highly controversial opinion. Most people would agree that most of the old systems were better. However, the fanbase has pretty much given in on the comparative quality of the games as a whole. The way legendaries are handled is a symptom of the greater flaws of the lack of soul in the new games.

I feel like legendaies lost most of their "oomf" before it was apparent that gamefreak was phoning it in

The way Legendaries were being treated was definitly a mining canary.

I don't mind Mythical distributions being mostly online nowadays, but I would love to see the in-game story events that you had to go through make a return.

For all of its flaws, I think BDSP did that quite well.

F* "lol here's Yet Another Raikou" legendary giveaways tbh. Just give me a 2v1 or 3v1 fight against a Legendary that has multiple health bars / phases, enrage timers, can use two moves per turn, and glorious cinematic attacks for their signature moves, à-la Final Fantasy or similar game superbosses.
