Something I learned that will never leave me: in Europe, almost all fire trucks are built on standard commercial chassis. But in the US, 75% are custom. Something to consider when the fire department says they don't have the equipment for tight turns
Something fun is that my city crushed the fire union over the last decade and recently got rid of the fire department. Now we have a combined paramedic/fire/cop department and anybody at the fire station is a cop with basically no training who wanted to pick up an extra shift. So yeah, hopefully nothing around here catches fire.

Absolutely. And nobody seems to care : / I know the guy who was head of the union and stuff. He tried to make it an issue for years and years. The local paper categorically refused to print a story about it. It was never an issue that came up in any elections for city council or mayor, except oddly one candidate who mentioned that he thought they should keep the fire department but who was otherwise a hooting chud. I've never heard it talked about. Nobody I tell cares. God I hate america
I just thought of a stupid comedy sketch: Cop Firefighters.
Every time it's the same. They show up. They shoot at the fire because that's the only way they know to kill a problem. But it never works. The fire continues to rage. Eventually the structure burns to the ground. Then they plant evidence so they can frame people they hate. And after yet another hard day - they go home and beat their lovers or spouses.
Sounds like a Whitest Kids You Know skit.
