Saying the quiet part out loud:

“We need to be clear about what our goals are,” Sawant said in a speech on Sunday in Dearborn, Michigan. “We are not in a position to win the White House.

“But we do have a real opportunity to win something historic. We could deny Kamala Harris the state of Michigan. And the polls show that most likely Harris cannot win the election without Michigan.”

So the goal is “fighting to defeat Harris, not just symbolically but in reality,” Sawant said. “This is ground zero to punish Kamala Harris and defeat her.”

If you admit Stein can’t win, and you claim Harris must be defeated, then you’re working to elect Donald Trump.

I was previously a supporter. I don't think I've ever lost faith in a public figure so quickly.

“The Democrats were the party of slavery, and of slave owners — that’s in their history,” Sawant raged at one point.

The absurdity and lack of context in this statement is so fucking ridiculous that it made curse words that have caused me to get temporarily banned from communities on lemmy before.

Context: I live in Seattle, consider myself super left, but have despised this woman for a decade or more.

That particular factoid is a great litmus test to tell if somebody is an absolute complete fucking moron.

"Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face" is an expression used to describe a needlessly self-destructive overreaction to a problem: "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" is a warning against acting out of pique, or against pursuing revenge in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one's anger.

Lived long enough to see themselves become the villain.
