As near as I can tell, the only thing 2A has done was to guarantee the fascists had an army to call on to attempt to overthrow the government rather than defend it and ensured our mass murderers are the best armed mass murderers in the world.

If 2A maniacs seriously thought that its purpose was to establish a militia for local defense, they would a) shut the fuck up and b) go enlist in the National Guard.

Given the advantages of actual training, you'd think the nutjobs would be 100% in favour of actual drilling and training as well.

I was happy to trade occupations from soldier to student. Birkenstocks are way less hazardous than an m16a3/c7, even on my nasty feet.

I imagine they don't want people telling them what to do, which is hilarious given, you know, chain of command.

I will say that I've met very few actual ex-military personnel who truck with any of this Oathekeepers, III'ers, etc. bullshit. I still remember how kitted out the insurrectionists were on January 6th, looking like they'd purchased half of a Cabela's on the way to DC.

I've been considering getting a gun because I'm uncomfortable with the idea of only right wing jobs having them. Just a shotgun and just kept at home.

EXACTLY. Except that's pretty well how they think of just about anyone else. In a room full of armed people you can't trust, you wanna also be armed.

Okay tough guy. Show me how brave you are in the face of opposition that completely trumps your unarmed ass. Let me know how it goes when you're facing tyranny empty handed.

Isn't that basically what the average person living anywhere face everyday?

[–] Mango@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Yeah and because I was unarmed, they got away with it.

I'm a combat vet and I fell on the side of never owning a gun. Gun culture makes me uncomfortable. "When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." and whatnot.

I'm in big cities a lot and I'm just fine. Plus, I actually enjoy my day instead of existing in this perpetual state of anxiety (or depressingly for a lot of people, hope) of "Do I shoot someone today?"
