It's because the average person cannot conceptualize an existential threat. Hell, even I can't really conceive of how badly climate change is gonna fuck up my life, but I listen to the people smarter than me telling me it will.
Tiktok reduced the avagerage attention span to 30 seconds.....
Politicians plan for 4-5 years until there is the next election...
Humanity is bad at planning further in the future.....
The more we head down the drain the more I look to the lives that people in developing nations lead and think “huh, I guess we’re going for equality by making everything worse instead of better. Awesome.”

It's such a distant issue that need immediate action people won't realise it untill it's too late to save the economy.

The first thing I thought to myself when I woke up on Wednesday and found out was "I hope they get exactly what they voted for".
One of the things I've realized over the past couple of days is that when people talk about the economy, they're not always talking about the same thing. When a normal person talks about it, it's things like the cost of goods and housing, when the media and politicians and ultra-wealthy talk about it, they mean rich people's yacht money - and one of the the problems is many people don't realize those aren't the same thing and at this point of our late stage capitalist hellscape both meanings are opposed to each other. Rich people's yacht money is now coming from increasing the cost of things we need to survive.
Yeah, the average proletariat. I still have hope for us but, this is accurate.
