On occassion I'll be really trying to listen to someone or someone is just chatting with me and it's like, I hear they are speaking, but for 5-10 seconds I can't understand what they are saying. So I'll ask them to repeat. Then, around the 3rd or 4th time it'll suddenly snap together in my brain and I hear it all at once. I usually end up interrupting them mid sentence....

I've tried explaining this to people but they don't quite get it. It's not a volume problem, it's a processing problem. (I think it's worse when I try to make eye contact.)
