Instead of continuing to kinda beat a dead horse, would it be more constructive to accept what has happened and then open up a discussion to create a new comm that might be favorable to all parties? Or something that people would feel more comfortable about blocking if needed, and moving on. And then maybe creating polls or something based on feedback. I think this would really help to restore trust and a sense of community with users and maybe help ease pressure on mods/admins to have to decide what the "right" thing to do is, and possibly piss people off more.
I have already seen some constructive ideas in the other posts, and there seemed to even be a compromise made between some users who were most at odds but that seemed to get buried under the THOUSANDS of comments. Some ideas to facilitate discussion for a new dunk comm:
- Community name ideas
- What are the aspects we enjoy about the dunk tank?
- What do we dislike?
- What do we think non-negotiable, bannable behavior should be?
- Ideas on how moderation/rules can be more consistent?
Some ideas that I have thought of:
-
Can it be a combo dunk/props comm? Not only sharing cringey ass takes, but also really great posts/rebuttals from people that we can learn from? That way it incorporates some of what the mods want, but there's still space for the shitpost. So then people don't necessarily have to make effort posts, dunking will be aplenty, but then people can also be exposed to wins/good praxis/successful arguments.
-
heavier moderation. Not exactly sure what that looks like but the community can maybe come up with a body of rules on this.
-
Creating a mod team that is diverse and active; sounds like there is some bad behavior that is missed by mods; this could be because whatever it is may be invisible to someone of one identity but it is visible to another.
-
Somehow amplifying the effortpost comm. Can each new thread be auto-stickied or something? Or they can be incorporated into the new general megathreads alongside thelastaxolotl's excellent megathread posts? People might be more inclined to make effortposts if there were more engagement, and people spoke to how the algorithm really prevents that.
Idk I'm just a little guy but I think using this time constructively while the mods deliberate can really be the best thing done at this point
Always be editing my comments:
After this is settled I think it could be a really good idea to have a community input discussion on how to maintain trust/transparency/accountability for mods/admins. I think I saw that REgon(???) posted some ideas about this already.
