Forget that, just lease the desk to a company that makes gay and trans porn and have people fuck on it.

[–] JoYo@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

that's not what jones used it for?

[–] Delphia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

No. Im suggesting penis on the desk, not an enormous cunt.

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Gavin McGinnes?

There was nothing else in the news today but this. Every person on the planet knows at this point.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Not when they exclusively get their news from fox, tucker, and Alex Jones. Most probably have no clue. One downside to isolationist media.

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Except the person who just asked what it was about, I imagine that's why they asked .

I'm not sure if OP means this, but given that the acquisition headline has been posted 500 times today, I assume they meant "what's the deal with the desk?"

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world -4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"It's the desk from InfoWars, which The Onion just bought."

Better? Sorry I assumed y'all could put two and two together (it's four, btw).

I guess "the desk" is something that people who watch infowars know about? "The desk from infowars" doesn't give the rest of us any context.

Why didn't they ask about the carpet, or the refrigerator? What's so special about the desk?

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Okay, I did a bit of googling and I think they refer to this desk:

Which... I guess... is iconic if you watch InfoWars?

This whole conversation makes this post make a lot more sense.

If you knew what InfoWars was at all, it would be pretty obvious, you don't need to have watched much (which I didn't, just saw the meme clips). InfoWars was one dude sitting at a desk screaming about conspiracy theories and selling snake oil for hours and hours, that's all it was. The desk was the only other thing on screen besides Alex Jones afaik. There was nothing special about it, but there was also no other part of the office "featured" on the show. Plus it says "InfoWars" in giant letters on it, so that should make for a fun prop for The Onion.

Everything I know about InfoWars I read. Every picture I've seen of Alex Jones is him outside or a closeup of his face.

But I did see the picture of the desk that somebody else posted and I understand now why having it would be a big deal.

Unfortunately, the judge paused the purchase and the site it back up slinging crap.

the onion bought infowars, the brand, the domain, it's intellectual property like the character "Alex Jones" all of it belongs to Infowars. Apparently the desk as well

[–] mayo_cider@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

Can't wait for the reports from the special correspondent Alex Jones (the character)

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Get out the UV light and make sure to wear gloves around it.

Who owns The Onion? What to know after satire publication buys Alex Jones' Infowars

The current owner and chairman of The Onion is Jeff Lawson, with Ben Collins listed as chief executive officer, according to the publication's website.

However, The Onion's parent company is Global Tetrahedron, where Bryce P. Tetraeder is CEO.

Collins should GTFO of Bluesky, because it is a Nazi bar, about as much as 𝕏itter is.

[–] JoYo@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 month ago

nope, their name is tim onion.

[–] FabledAepitaph@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Wat? It's full of gay furries and IT professionals haha

[–] StarPupil@ttrpg.network 3 points 1 month ago

But you repeat yourself

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And Xitter is full of porn and neoliberal, Democratic party-aligned pundits, but doesn’t negate the fact that it’s a Nazi bar.

[–] FabledAepitaph@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not any more. Didn't they ban porn? Haha

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

No. Is that a recent development? The Verge in June: X has new rules that officially allow porn now

[–] SweetCitrusBuzz@beehaw.org -3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

and go where exactly? It's not as if fedi is any less fascist, racist etc. Quite the opposite in fact.

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you’re running into fascists and racists, then maybe you’re hanging out in the wrong parts of the fediverse.

[–] SweetCitrusBuzz@beehaw.org -1 points 1 month ago

What I'm saying is that it's no less a white supremacist network than anywhere else and I'm on an instance that has a zero tolerance policy for it. Yet people still show who they are even on 'good' instances that they don't (yet) block all too often, even and especially admins.
