on the one hand, it's annoying having so many photos of somebody's cat(s) flooding your feed
On the other, after months of election dread and with at least four more years of misery for everyone who isn't rich lying ahead of us -- sure, bring on the cat photos. Good palate cleanser.
Prefer the pic of my brothers kitten then other post about Trump.
Honestly i just had to block /cats. It was 95% of the front page

The best Lemmy has ever been. The Internet exists for two reasons: Cat picd/videos snd porn. And we got the porn covered too.
Is it like a coordinated effort to drown out politics, whats the angle here?
After the US election, it's needed anyways. We could probably all use a short break from politics

Not a cat person but I want more void pics!!!
I swear I've only seen meta posts talking about all the cats. I haven't seen a single non-meta cat post.
Update (2024-11-23T01:52Z): It turns out that, to see the cats, one must sort by "Hot" [1]. I was sorting by "All" + "Active", but, to see the cats, I must sort "All" + "Hot".

[...] Active prioritizes many comments iirc, but on most of these posts I see few if any comments. Using Hot though, they can dominate a feed due to being highly upvoted.
You might have federation issues (or blocked the right/wrong people/communities/instances).
There are loads of cats....
