While I am not a fan of consolidation, and believe it's not good for industry in general, in short-to-medium term, this is a great news for Xbox players. So, Congratulations everyone!

It has begun, the swallowing of all that is smaller. Expect continuing centralization among corporate entities in the gaming industry. Those profit margins are tight, and line must go up.

I suspect this is the end for now. MS won't be able to quell anticompetitive fears on another large buy for at least 5-10 years, IMO, and with the economy down overall, few companies will be looking to spend big money. Embracer not getting their payout is another scare for the industry too.

That said... it's likely only a matter of time, and this consolidation will likely continue eventually. Hopefully small indie studios continue to thrive to fill the niche.

I imagine if we see Godot assume a Blender-like role for game dev that will happen for indie studios. We are in dire need of a tool and a distribution platform that is not controlled by a centralized entity.
