  1. Rape kits aren't free? I figured that because it was a response to a criminal action it counted as more legal than medical... guess you learn something new every day...

  2. BEING RAPED IS A FUCKING ELECTIVE PROCEDURE!?!?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW!?!?!

[–] HearTwoTalk@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago (1 children)

When I applied for a driver's license in Texas, they had a list of things that I could choose to pay extra for, one of which was donating money towards testing rape kits. It still infuriates that they tried to pass that off of random people.

One of the biggest scams the American Government ever pulled, was claiming that its responsibilities were actually that of the citizens, and that anyone who expects the Government to do anything but wield an iron fist is a "Whiny snowflake looking for a free lunch"

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's just a symptom of the actual greatest scam: making people think the government should be a "them" instead of an "us."

Its responsibilities are those of the citizens. That's why the government exists: to regulate, pay for, and administrate those responsibilities.

"Brian Thompson was never satisfied with the Status Quo."

Yeah clearly he wanted something closer to Handmaiden's Tale

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 67 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Brian got off easy, yikes.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 54 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He was basically euthanized by comparison to what he and his company did to people.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Euthanasia could possibly even be more painful than a well aimed gunshot to the head

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

well whatever it is, it's still not covered by UHC since it was an elective procedure.

dude chose to do what eventually killed him. just like smoking, or drugs, or being raped evidently. all according to UHC anyway.

Just because it is legal, doesn't mean it isn't punishable.

[–] Fuck_u_spez_@sh.itjust.works 93 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Conversely, just because murder is illegal... doesn't mean it's always wrong.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (5 children)

If you kill a man in the heat of battle you’re a hero. If you kill a man in the heat of passion you’re a murderer.

So because she likely hasn't the energy to sue, they just lie? Being raped is not an "elective procedure".

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 days ago (2 children)

"you could have kept the illegitimate product of rape child"

[–] medgremlin@midwest.social 35 points 3 days ago (1 children)

A rape kit is to collect evidence. It has nothing to do with emergency contraception. The ER can prescribe something like Plan B for that purpose, but it is not something that a "rape kit" does.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 14 points 2 days ago (7 children)

Why is law enforcement not paying for it? You know, as part of investigating the crime that took place.

some ceo: 🥱❌‼️😂🤑💲

[–] Kalysta@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fuck UHC. I hope you’re doing better. If so consider getting a lawyer and/or going to the newspaper if you think you can do it.

No one should have to pay for that. No one.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Not me but thank you, some poor soul I saw on Bluesky.

[–] Infinite@lemmy.zip 205 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Clearly, being a woman is a pre-existing condition.

ಠ_ಠ

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 65 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Things like pregnancy or being a domestic violence victim were considered valid preexisting conditions until they passed Obamacare

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

Republicans: “A woman’s job in life is to be pregnant.”

Public: “Ok so you’ll offer support for them, yea?”

Republicans: “Absolutely fucking not lol”

[–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 18 points 3 days ago (2 children)

How long until Americans make being alive a pre-existing condition

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'll try and get a cure for it first.

B-but if we had universal health care we would lose all our FrEeDoM!!1! /edit: left out "if"

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 61 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 38 points 3 days ago (4 children)

That's technically better than what we have now. All we get is a single jackass deciding whether we die or not.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 10 points 3 days ago

I mean, a Death Panel would have to actually stop and think about the life they're going to snuff out instead of just going "Can you just die? Our share holders would really appreciate it? No? Eh, I wasn't really asking anyway.."

If wishes alone could kill, there wouldn't be a single health insurance executive alive within 24 hours.

I say just don't pay it. Let them threaten you all they want, they can't put you into collections for medical debt. Throw out their letters, block their collection numbers from calling you, don't give those slime balls a fucking penny.

[–] DillyDaily@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

It's not just about the money, seeing the UHC letter in your mailbox when you are not expecting it will bring back flashes of that night and that trauma.

It's like knocking on the door of a veteran at random intervals throughout the year too show them pictures of the war. It's dehumanising.

[–] rarbg@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

I never pay my medical debt lol. Under 200 won’t effect your credit btw so never pay bills under 200
