Didn't last long...

What difference does this make? Some lower level employee will see this, roll his eyes, and then continue on with his day.

Beyond this, do you think Apple can actually take any other position than aligning with fascism? That was always going to happen. They literally can't help but align with fascism- this is the culmination of late stage capitalism.

It's like politely asking a dog not to salivate when it sees a steak in front of it.

You're not gonna get anywhere and you're just wasting time.

Also on a side note- you should switch to Linux because you should take charge of your own hardware and learn how it works before it's taken away from you. You should do it for open source and for freedom. Not threaten to do something because a company is doing company things.

Not always, at least that I hope the classic answer is https://youtu.be/VtvjbmoDx-I

[–] communism@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 hour ago

You're shouting into the void. Stop trying to beg the ruling class to not oppress you and get organised. They will not give up power voluntarily.

You can leave a review for 'gulf of Mexico (gulf of America)' in Google maps too. Let's do a review bomb

[–] thisdude1092@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I’m sure they’re scrambling after this

[–] B312@lemmy.world 15 points 3 hours ago

The linux part is cringe. Just move if you don’t want to use apple’s os

[–] LeTak@lemm.ee 17 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

https://ravynos.com/ Switch to MacOS without Apple when it is finally released.

[–] SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Is this another ReactOS situation, or does this have a chance to actually become usable as a daily driver?

[–] LeTak@lemm.ee 3 points 2 hours ago

I hope it becomes usable. If they hold there promise. Linux Wayland apps could be run through emulation layer, FreeBSD apps would run native and many MacOS apps should work out of the box.

Honestly - this is from a playbook used by every autocratic administration: “Take the attention away from the more important things”. Seen it in EU constantly: Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, etc. So sure, report it, but be aware this is a charade.

[–] notsoshaihulud@lemmy.world 1 points 59 minutes ago

yup. at this point the bullshit coming out of trump's mouth is the least concerning thing in this admin. the heavy lifting is done by the heritage foundation and doge

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 7 points 4 hours ago

It is the main thing Trump is good at:

Creating some drama/infuriation to keep news noisy in order to hide his fascist dictator playbook moves

[–] neoscaler@feddit.org 39 points 9 hours ago

Do it. Move to Linux.

[–] jim@piefed.social 63 points 10 hours ago (3 children)

Wrote App Store review, then deleted maps. Installed Organic Maps to replace.

[–] Itzdestroyed@lemm.ee 20 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Based. Organic maps is a great navigation app. I also like magic earth :)

[–] frank@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 hours ago

I've been struggling without public transportation in Organic. It kinda works? Like it shows the path but doesn't actually show the stops or station names

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

is there an easy way to export all my map markers from google to organic? I've saved a lot of locations over the years.

[–] tgxn@lemmy.tgxn.net 1 points 4 hours ago

hmm I wondered this too. I have a ton of starred places as well as some custom lists. I wasn't able to find anything to do it, but would also be interested in this.

[–] Soapbox1858@lemm.ee 92 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

I can't be the only one who feels like this is the absolute lowest priority of dumb shit to resist the regime over. It's just filler. Another thing he is doing to flood the zone. But one that really doesn't hurt anything. It's a distraction. Ignore it and focus on the actual damage he is doing.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 1 points 3 hours ago

Exactly. Just use OpenStreetMap and move on. It's still the Gulf of Mexico for me. I use Organic Maps.

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 14 points 9 hours ago

Yah, it feels like someone tossing a ball behind a dog. "Look over there! Go get it!"

[–] GreatBlueHeron@lemmy.ca 21 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I get what you're saying but, as someone observing from outside, stuff like this is all I can do to resist.

[–] fushuan@lemm.ee 3 points 2 hours ago

As someone from the outside, you wouldn't even see the US specific naming. If complaining in a bug report about the fact and threatening to abandon the platform in favour of Linux is all you can do, man, don't bother xD.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 7 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (2 children)

Yeah, I mean it's just books those nazis are burning, it doesn't hurt anything, no need to discuss it. /s

US fascists are fucking rewriting the world map and eradicating historical name, I consider it actual damage.

[–] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 21 points 10 hours ago

Actual book burning is the scientific data and articles being purged and saved (for now) by the Internet archive

[–] orgrinrt@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (2 children)

To be fair, the entire history of humanity is full of exactly that. These are mostly just aimed at and recognized by the US. Same as Russia currently renaming occupied villages. Nobody else recognizes those, it’s just not that special or important at this point, with all of the other shit going on.

Ultimately, the names of places change. All the time. And will continue to change. It’s just what we do as humans. Somebody uses force and swings their dick around and locally others have to either accept it, silently or whining, or punch the fucker. Elsewhere people fight similar fights and care very little about the other dickswingers far away.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

the entire history of humanity is full of exactly that

The world today has nothing to do with the world 200 years ago. GAFAM are controlling the way information is shared and it's very, they are more powerful then anything humanity has ever seen. It's Big Brother from 1984.

But unlike americans, I don't consider that we should just don't care and stop whining. I'll keep fighting fascism any way I can.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 3 points 4 hours ago

But google shows this imaginary trump name around the globe, not just in America. That is different to how google handles the fantasy names for lands China and Russia claim they are theirs..

[–] PumpkinEscobar@lemmy.world 20 points 9 hours ago

Also, reporting that Trump Tower (either) should be renamed Mexico Tower feels pretty good.

[–] Lemjukes@lemm.ee 15 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

~~lol, the iOS app won’t let me submit a ‘name is wrong’ report.~~

I’m dumb

[–] bartleby1@lemmy.ml 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It won’t let you send until you actually change the name lol

The stunlock continues

[–] sic_semper_tyrannis 16 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

You should abandon Apple for Linux anyways. Apple doesn't care about you, your privacy, or anything but them making more money, from you. This has been proven time and time again by evidence and whistleblowers.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Eh, out of all my own traffic I’ve MITM’d it’s mostly been third-party SDKs in apps doing creepy shit.

Down to hate on Gulf of America but when it comes to privacy it’s debatable.

Shout out to the menial workers at Apple Maps who are going to have a crap day at work tomorrow because of the thing their boss made them do, so they don't get fired and replaced by someone else who would do it.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 2 points 7 hours ago

That's why they made Apple intelligence so minded numbingly stupid. Job security. If it were capable Apple management would have replaced everyone.
