First it was the digg effect then the reddit hug of death and now it's the lemmy lick!

[–] agentshags@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I thought it was just "Slashdotted."

Things used to get Farked back in the day too.

[–] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

urgh really, why is it a lick

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Because it's something a lemming would do.

[–] nailbar@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I like to think it did when the Framework website went down after the new hardware announcements.

[–] ObsidianZed@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Sure, but they were also live streaming their announcements on YouTube so my money's on that.

Damn is that actually what lemming teeth look like?

Mouth closed: cutest little critter

Opens mouth: 😳 wtf

Tbf this condition is shared by many humans as well, so we can add this to the list of excellent lemming metaphors

Basically any rodent(to my knowledge).

[–] grue@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Literally every rodent. Having teeth like that is the defining feature that distinguishes them from other similar types of mammals, such as lagomorphs (rabbits etc.), which have four top teeth.

From Wikipedia:

Rodents (from Latin rodere, 'to gnaw') are mammals of the order Rodentia (/roʊˈdɛnʃə/ roh-DEN-shə), which are characterized by a single pair of continuously growing incisors in each of the upper and lower jaws.

(I learned this the other day when my wife thought rabbits were rodents and we ended up looking it up.)

Maybe this is just a bad angle. Doesn't look so bad in some other pics.

[–] Irelephant@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago

They are both cute. Also most rodents do that, like guinea pigs:

Lemmy Cliff would be better.

Nah, ever since I learned the true history behind that, I try to bury it so it can't perpetuate.
