This is one sample visit to the conservative subreddit. It's an appalling example of the impact of disinformation. When you need to be reminded of who the enemy is and what they think, visit here. You will see that there is no gratitude or mutual respect, and there never was. There was never any concept of mutual benefit. And now, with Trump leading the cult, there truly is no depth to which they won't go, and no decisions from Trump that won't be retroactively justified.

These people are dangerous, and they don't give a shit about any alliances, friendship or partnership. And they control the levers of power.

Edit to add a screenshot. Not sure how to add more, but it doesn't get any better as you go deeper. What's clear is that this relationship is over, and we need to move on.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this was Made in St. Petersburg™️. And American ‘conservatives’ just lapping it up

[–] freeman@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The talking points might be, that supremacist US attitude is not. It's been there for decades.

Its not the Russians or Trump there is big part of the US that is hostile to anybody but their, imagined, version of America and places no real value on others even allies.

I saw someone on Facebook today talking about the orange rapist's claim that the US subsidizes us. Um, no.

It has been interesting to see "Canadian Conservatives", some of them top commenters, get viciously turned on by /r/conservative while lamenting about how this is hurting PP and the Conservatives movement in Canada.

[–] leftytighty@slrpnk.net 18 points 3 days ago

turns out an ideology that ignores real problems and always seeks out groups to villainize isn't a good way to make long term friends

[–] Spookyghost@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 days ago

Cesspool, the question is what % are bots.

[–] crapwittyname@lemm.ee 18 points 3 days ago (10 children)

James O'Brien isn't my favourite talking head, but I do like his idea of having contempt for the conmen and compassion for the conned. These people have swallowed a lot of big lies and the fault is with the liars.

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago

The con they got suckered into is American Exceptionalism, and it's not Trumppy that suckered them. He's a victim of the same brainrot.

These guys are reveling in it, and I have no sympathy for those that choose "we're just better than everyone else" as part of their core identity.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 6 points 3 days ago

If they were truely conned sure. But most of these guys just thought the pain would be placed on others, not them. They're fine woth others suffering, but the tears start to flow when they experience anything negative at all.

Lol, I've literally never seen that many downvotes. What a toxic sub though.

Doubling down on tribalism won't save us from their ignorance. The degradation of a unified society by means of Us vs. Them thinking is how we got here in the first place and how things continue to get worse.

There are those at the fringes of that style of thinking that can be reached by those of us who are adjacent to them (via family, mutual friends, workplaces, etc.). Those folks at the fringes can reach those adjacent to them. We'll never get 100% of them on side but we can at least weaken the well-funded machine that continues to keep them uninformed by relating to people as human beings instead of stoking division like oligarchs intend for us to do.

[–] LostWon@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Only thing I said that I think might be worth downvoting is "unified society," which might have unintentionally implied society was once completely unified. It felt so obvious I couldn't possibly mean that, it didn't even occur to me to be more precise there. In hindsight though, what I should have stressed is that we've been getting less unified than ever. We're losing the ability to see the humanity in one another, and have been for a long time.

Folks who sow division want to make it about culture or politics, but it was always about class or more fundamentally, power. The more willing we are to play the hierarchy game, the more power goes to the ones on top.

LOL! Then you have the Putin Bots and Xi's $0.50 Army mixing in with the f'ed up MAGAts.

Putin Bots and Xi’s $0.50 Army

Trying to explain to everyone who will listen that Jeff Bezos got rich doing Fivr jobs for the Chinese Communist Party, but they just keep laughing and dunking my head in the toilet.

I'm closer on the Mexican side of the country, but I'm gonna really miss having friendly neighbors. Sorry we've been so shitty lately to our northern and southern friends.

Pedo-Donald will try to annex Canada. For the first time of my life I'm considering getting a gun. We cannot trust conservatives anymore. Poilievre and mostly Ford are just playing the though guy card now to negociate a position, mark my words. Be prepare to fight.

Sometimes, I wish I didn't have eyes... This is one of those times.

Jesus fucking christ. Like, if I typed that shit, I'd hope someone would put me in a fucking psych ward, stat. People need some fucking help.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 7 points 3 days ago

Personally, I automatically hate anyone that describes themselves as conservative, but you have to know that r/Conservative is not a very good representation of the entire group. It's EXTREME and one of the most blatant echo chambers I've ever witnessed; any dissent will earn you a ban from that sub.

[–] JPAKx4@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 days ago

The only 1% these guys can be in is 1% posters on the conservative subreddit.

Kinda wild. I really gotta leave and get out of this pile of a dumpster fire I'm in, and head to Canada or someplace. This screenshot is just insane. I have no words for what I'm seeing here in this screenshot.

Glad I no longer post to reddit anymore. May go ahead with a essentially full block of reddit and essentially all of Big TV outright at some point. I've thought about cutting off Big TV completely; as hearing from American news media has been driving me on the verge of outright mental insanity, but now seeing this tonight, it seems like I gotta cut Big TV outright.

I've never been so thankful and glad to be on Lemmy and Mastodon for this wild ride since the start. I'm realizing just how dire it is out there. Having to get this off my chest with nowhere to vent to. Now I just need to find a Lemmy community or something that helps with people coping with this insanity, because I might need to hide this community again otherwise for my sanity. I already had most of the news and politics communities hidden on Lemmy to manage the flow of insanity, but went back and forth on this one this week.
