(What is the point here? Just two days ago, here, in the same community, a post about this app was being made.)

This is awesome! Just tested it on 0% alcohol beer and all info is correct.

This is a great step

Hello,

From the GitHub: https://github.com/Jupiterrr/buy-european

You also need an API key for the Gemini API. You can get one by creating an account on aistudio.google.com and then creating an API key.

So this is basically a wrapper for Gemini?

I'm unsure if you're looking at the same app. There is 1 using AI and there is this one that just works using barcodes and their database.

I took the Github link from their site:

Has this been removed? I cant see it on their Github.

A lot of upcoming Apps are. I've seen a mastodon post by someone showing off all the buy european related Apps and it was all low effort wrappers. Idk what they are aiming at.

Hosting their code on Github and using (Google's) Gemini AI to identify products. Yeah I'm not sure about this one.

This is not the app with AI, this one just works based on barcodes.

Then why does the Github linked on its website say it requires the Gemini API?

I applaud the effort, but basing a "buy-european" app on google (of all evil things possible, you chose the apocalyptic riders of the interwebz) seems kinda... I dunno?

But I should shut up, as I can't offer any European ai with an API.

You need to be where the people are and I don't fault them for using a cheap option. Don't let perfect stand in the way of good.

The small cost of cloudflare compared to changing your purchasing forever is quite a trade no?

Mistral has an API.
