Meanwhile, my ADHD: Why not both?

Overwhelmed by the presence of the unbelievable number of 2 tasks and be bored by the distraction I use to procrastinate

[-] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago

and then rely on the procrastination anxiety to push you to get those number 2 tasks done

[-] TrenchcoatFullofBats@belfry.rip 5 points 8 months ago

Or conclude that you'll never possibly be able to complete that many tasks and spend the next 6 hours on Urban Dictionary only to learn that a bussy can have rizz and be the drip

[-] Anamana@feddit.de 12 points 8 months ago

Why play life on easy mode, when you can play on god mode?

[-] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 9 points 8 months ago

And people wonder why I cheat in single player video games!

That's my escapism and wish fulfilment time, don't need it to be as frustratingly difficult as the real world!

[-] sparkl_motion@beehaw.org 4 points 8 months ago

I’ve finally hit the age that Story Mode is my preferred game method.

[-] Norgur@kbin.social 3 points 8 months ago

Switched to that in Baldurs Gate today. Much better. When I want to tryhard something, it'll better give me RL rewards like a job or a child that has any chance in life I can give him. Video Games are there to relief stress.

[-] sparkl_motion@beehaw.org 2 points 8 months ago

That’s exactly the game I was referring to.

So much fun when I can simply enjoy the experience.

[-] Jon_Servo@lemmy.world 25 points 8 months ago

So bored, so much schoolwork to do. 😮‍💨

[-] Zipitydew@sh.itjust.works 11 points 8 months ago

Same. Chiming in from my desk. With 50 unread emails. And a 7 figure capital project in progress I really need to be calling vendors about status updates.

Haven't hit the procrastination ----> anxiety hyper focus tipping point yet.

[-] Eonandahalf@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Dude I feel you

[-] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 19 points 8 months ago

Ideal scenario: low stakes high priority items I hear about the morning of, can complete without having to consult anything else, and can slack off the other hour or two with no other ongoing tasks.

Oh and you figured how to optimize the process by 10 minutes and figured out a problem you hadn't dealt with before by finding a co-worker's previous document, which only took you 15 minutes. The contractor praises you for the quick turnaround.

Better than porn

[-] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 19 points 8 months ago

Every time I see a meme here it makes me think I probably have undiagnosed ADHD.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 9 points 8 months ago

I was about to type the exact same comment. But then again in every thread there are people saying "this isn't an ADHD only thing! Everyone does it! People with ADHD just do it to the extreme!" So who the fuck knows.

[-] LwL@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

The general thing with mental illness classification is "does the behaviour have a severe negative impact on your life?" (I know "severe" isn't well-defined either though).

Something like Social Anxiety Disorder is probably the easiest to understand what's meant by "severe". Everyone has some social anxiety (and those that don't are usually socially oblivious) but most people don't have that anxiety stop them from completing necessary everyday tasks like making an appointment for a haircut or going to the grocery store (and make it take a lot of effort to do so when circumstances eventually force you to). It doesn't require the extreme case of some people that can't even leave their house out of that fear, but it has to have an impact.

Not sure if that helps in any way, in the end a professional diagnosis is the only way to really find out.

[-] Micromot@feddit.de 7 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

From all the overlap with symptoms I basically know it now, but I still have to get a diagnosis. My parents don't believe that the inattentive kind of adhd exists so they don't really let me.get a diagnosis

Man, same. I've been riding the "hahah that's a funny similarity I do that too" train for like, 5 years. Finally going to get a screening once the damn mental healthcare system has room for me. Bleh.

[-] Conman_Signor@lemmy.one 15 points 8 months ago

Me, every single time I have an extended amount of time off from work. There's so much time I can do anything I want, what's there even to do. What do I want to do? Wrestle with that until the last day then find something I really want to do and end up not having a lot of time for it.

Don't worry. Until given a deadline it'll be literally impossible for me to do anything about it.

[-] BolexForSoup@kbin.social 7 points 8 months ago

I’ve had to tell my manager this. He’s like “no problem set one!” and I had to tell him “I understand this sounds like the worst thing for an employee to say, but I need you to set the deadline and I need you to hold me accountable. I need a tiny bit of external pressure.” He’s been very understanding without micro managing have to give credit

[-] Stamets@startrek.website 4 points 8 months ago

That's AWESOME! It's so rare to find a manager who will actually listen and help out like that. That's great!

[-] BolexForSoup@kbin.social 4 points 8 months ago

Yeah I got pretty lucky. I can be very frank about what I need, and he can be very frank about expectations. We just don’t run into confusion on these issues as a result. Works great.

[-] rostby@lemmy.fmhy.net 12 points 8 months ago

Why did you have to make it hot 😡

[-] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 11 points 8 months ago

me: bored because there's too much to do

[-] PeWu@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 months ago

Me: Be bored cuz there's nothing new to do. I don't wanna do repetitive things 😤

[-] nuzzlerat@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Once I started taking medication and doing work that I enjoy, I haven’t been bored a single day.

However, being overwhelmed is an agonizing constant in my life

[-] Franzia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 8 months ago

Writing a huge to do list to front load my day with fantasies about things I will do.
